Associate Research Scientist in the Dept of Genetics (Sun Lab) - Military Veterans

at HERC- Upper MidWest

The Sun lab is seeking an associate research scientist with a strong background in animal models of genetic diseases. The Sun lab is dedicated to career development of all lab members and welcomes applicants of diverse backgrounds.

About the Lab:

The Sun lab focuses on the function of cilia and the etiology of ciliopathies, particularly polycystic kidney disease and primary ciliary dyskinesia. Originally established as a zebrafish lab, the Sun lab has expanded into mouse and cell culture to translate novel findings to clinically more relevant systems. Our interdisciplinary research has taken us into fields that span genetics, chemical genetics, biochemistry, developmental biology, and imaging. More details can be found at https://www.sun-lab-yale.org/ . Current key questions include tissue-specific functions of cilia in epithelial cyst formation and interstitial fibrosis in the kidney, the building of motile cilia in zebrafish and the mammalian airway, and chemical-genetic interactions in zebrafish ciliopathy models.

Primary responsibilities:

The applicant will work under the direction of the principal investigator and with the team to carry out tasks essential for projects focused on cilia and ciliopathies. Specific tasks include:

  • Designing and performing experiments focused on cilia and ciliopathies in mouse and other systems.
  • Documenting, analyzing and reporting results and troubleshooting experimental procedures.
  • Writing manuscripts and proposals.
  • Collaborating with colleagues inside and outside of the lab.
  • Training lab members.
  • Other tasks required for the operation of the lab.

Applications should be submitted to http://apply.interfolio.com/156048 and should include a one-to-two-page cover letter that describes research experience and future goals, curriculum vitae, and two letters of recommendations.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. All questions should be addressed to zhaoxia.sun@yale.edu
