Overview
The Annual Giving and Stewardship Coordinator is a vital member of the Advancement and
Development teams. The person in this position will create and carry out annual giving
strategies that highlight University Libraries' priorities, expand the giving pipeline, and strive
to meet or exceed the Libraries' annual fundraising goal.
Primary responsibilities:
The Annual Giving and Stewardship Coordinator creates, manages and assesses written
and video appeals, programs, messages, audiences, and activities for overall
effectiveness. This includes analyzing information, researching trends, and translating data
and themes into effective donor communication materials. This collaborative work also
includes researching and writing readable and compelling acknowledgements and
stewardship reports to help advance relationships with donors.
The Annual Giving and Stewardship Coordinator is the primary point of contact for the
Libraries' annual giving donors and other donors, as needed. This position also oversees
internal gift administration processes and procedures, and coordinates with the department
of Archives and Special Collections and UMF gift administration on in-kind gift documents,
appraisals, Deeds of Gift, tax forms, and other procedures.
Essential Functions:
Annual Giving Program Development and Management 35%:
- Collaborate with UMF Annual Giving and marketing services teams on Libraries'
annual giving appeals (direct mail, email, text, social media). - Tailor / write compelling and effective marketing and appeal messages to a variety
of audiences and donors across the country. - Partner with the Director of Development and Libraries staff including curators and
program directors to identify and support unique crowdfunding initiatives and
targeted appeals to expand the giving pipeline. - Proactively identify, prioritize, and pursue opportunities and partnerships across U
of MN colleges and units to provide new pathways for donors to make an impact
through philanthropy.
Donor Stewardship and Engagement 40%:
- Research and write custom stewardship reports and initiate other personalized
materials (thank you videos and digital assets) that help connect donors with the
impact of their giving. - Provide timely gift acknowledgement through UMF's Acknowledgement Dashboard.
- Assess, prioritize, and tailor / write personalized acknowledgement letters and
communication from University Libraries leadership. - Serve as primary and positive contact for annual fund donors and
- Oversee Libraries / UMF partnership for auto-acknowledgement processes and
updates including refreshing copy and images and identifying additional audiences.
Gift Documentation and Donor Support 20%:
- Collaborate with UMF partners to use annual giving data to support development
goals - Ensure compliance with UMF policies regarding privacy protections.
- Proactively seek opportunities to learn and maintain expert user knowledge of the University of Minnesota Foundation's Donor Management System (DMS).
- Work closely with the department of Archives & Special Collections and UMF Gift Administration for recording and acknowledging in-kind gifts and donors
- Provide strategic project and administrative support to the Director of Development as needed.

Required:

- Bachelor's degree or a combination of related education and experience.
- Two+ years experience writing marketing, donor relations, stewardship, annual fund/appeals, or related materials.
- Ability to multitask, assess, and prioritize with frequent interruptions.
- Willingness to learn, seek advice, ask for help, and take initiative.
- Integrity; ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex situations and issues clearly, creatively, and critically.
- Proficient with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office or similar computer software.
- Experience with and/or willingness to learn the University of Minnesota's donor management system (DMS).
Preferred:
- Two+ years experience managing annual fund / annual giving programs.
- Experience in higher education or mission-centered nonprofit organizations.
- Experience with project management.
