Staff Counselor | Oregon State University - Military Veterans

at HERC- Northwest/Greater Washington

Internal Job Number: P08532UF Description: Counseling and Psychological Services is seeking two Staff Counselors. These are full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty positions. Oregon State University's ( OSU ) Counseling & Psychological Services ( CAPS ) is strongly committed to affirming diversity in a broad sense, to treating all with dignity and respect, and to opposing discrimination, prejudice, and oppression. Because OSU is a predominantly white institution ( PWI ), it is especially critical that we understand the experiences and needs of non-dominant students and staff, and that we provide support that is specifically designed to meet those needs. We recognize that, like most PWI's, our ways of supporting students and staff from non-dominant groups have been inadequate, and we have begun to work on doing better. This includes continually looking for ways to make our services more culturally responsive, including our hiring practices. We consider cultural humility to be an essential qualification for any CAPS position, and look for candidates who share this value with us. We are an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer, and strongly encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, women, individuals with disabilities, veterans, LGBTQ+ community members, and others who demonstrate the ability to help us achieve our vision of a diverse and inclusive community. The Staff Counselor is a 12-month full-time position that reports to a member of the CAPS senior leadership team (which includes the Executive Director, Senior Director of Clinical Services, and Director of Training). The primary purpose of this position is to enhance student success by providing culturally responsive clinical services, including the assessment and treatment of students. In addition, this position provides consultation to OSU community members, preventative and educational outreach initiatives, and training of doctoral interns and other graduate trainees. CAPS is committed to providing a range of culturally responsive services to help students succeed. These services are designed to help students understand themselves better, create and maintain satisfying relationships, improve their academic performance, foster resilience, and make healthy and satisfying career and life choices. We do this by providing consultation, single session interventions, psychoeducation, web-based support, crisis support during business hours, group counseling, and brief individual counseling when indicated. Additionally, if long-term care is needed we will make referrals to health care providers in the community. Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty): Typically requires Masters in Counseling, Clinical, Family Therapy, or equivalent from an accredited program. Obtain licensure in the state of Oregon within 18 months of employment, or as a Social Worker in the state of Oregon within 6 months of employment. Requirements : Master's of Social Work, Master's of Counseling, Master's of Marriage and Family Therapy, or Doctorate in Psychology-Counseling or Clinical. Eligible for licensure as LCSW , LPC , LMFT , or Licensed Psychologist in the state of Oregon within 18 months of employment. A demonstrable commitment and ability to promote and enhance diversity, and ongoing development of cultural humility in working with a diverse student population. Experience providing brief therapeutic interventions Experience providing crisis assessment and support services for high-risk clients Experience balancing multiple simultaneous demands in a fast-paced clinical setting Demonstrated ability to consult with multiple stakeholders and clients' families regarding students' mental health needs Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, evaluate, and report activities in a timely manner. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal). This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. Type: Work hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm; occasional after-hours meetings and/or weekend work may be required; a percentage of remote work and a flexible work schedule may also be possible, dependent upon student needs. Additional Salary Information: $51,072-$86,904
