About the Job:
40% - Candidate will be responsible for mouse colony genotyping and mouse colony management for the Garry laboratory in the area of stem cell research, regeneration, and physiology. The person in this position would support the mouse colony manager in tracking status of individual animals, performing and analyzing genotyping procedures. This also involves collecting tissue samples from mice and tagging mice with ear tag. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. This candidate must follow laboratory standard operation procedures (SOPs) when in clean rooms handling rodents.
- Analyze and interpret results of routine protocols to ensure optimal quality and consistency;
- Organize and maintain lab records including specimen intake standard protocols, instruction manuals, maintenance and quality control logs, and specimen logs;
- Develop working knowledge of effective troubleshooting techniques for difficult and unusual specimens in all aspects of lab service;
- Maintain a detailed notebook, type results, reports, and/or enter preliminary results including making case specific comments pertaining to quality of specimens and/or interpretation of results.
40%--Candidate will work closely with senior research investigators within the Garry lab to perform CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing to develop novel regenerative medicine models.
20% - Attend and participate in weekly laboratory meetings.
- Meeting with Principal Investigators to discuss progress and to develop work-plans. Interact with laboratory personnel through oral and written communication to provide customized services, technical assistance, training, and troubleshooting;
- Must practice safe work habits at all times, be knowledgeable about and adhere to university policies and procedures and complete required training as necessary.

Required Qualifications
BA/BS degree with a major in a biological science, or a combination of education and work experience totaling four years.
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical experience should involve preparing material for specialized analysis including PCR analysis. Experience processing and analyzing tissues. Experience working with laboratory animals. Basic computer skills are necessary (Excel, and Word, PowerPoint).
Willingness to learn several advanced imaging software programs. Strong problem solving skills are also required and the ability to maintain responsibility for multiple projects simultaneously is essential. Candidate must have the ability to read, interpret, and carefully follow experimental protocols.
