Location: Gardner, MA Category: Administrative Posted On: Thu Oct 3 2024 Job Description: MWCC is looking for a student-centered civic engagement professional to lead the nationally recognized Brewer Center for Civic Learning & Community Engagement. This role is responsible for the overall civic engagement programming at the college and all its campus locations. This person will have the opportunity to join a well-established Center, leading the redevelopment of service learning and civic learning in a post-COVID environment. Development of deeply reciprocal community partnerships is at the core of this role, ensuring that students are being connected with opportunities for engagement that support not only their growth, but existing needs in our region. A working knowledge (or willingness to learn about) of North Central Massachusetts region is important in this position. Familiarity with evaluation and assessment will be helpful in the overall direction, development and management of Center programming as we re-frame civic learning and civic engagement for a new generation of learners. General Statement of Duties: The Director will be responsible for civic learning and engagement programming at the college, and direction of the Brewer Center for Civic Learning and Community Engagement, inclusive of implementation and analysis of institutional and programmatic assessment and reporting of civic learning and engagement. This includes oversight, strategic direction, program implementation, evaluation of programs and staff, reporting and fiscal management of programs in accordance with MWCC and current grantee regulations. The Director will also manage partnerships with community based and municipal organizations in the region to facilitate civic learning and engagement. Responsibilities: In partnership with the Dean, provide direction, development and management of civic learning and engagement programs and partnerships, including but not limited to: service learning, internships/externships, Student Leaders in Civic Engagement (SLICE), the Students Serving Our Students Office (SOS), civics education and other civic and community engagement initiatives; Manage the operations of the Center; mentor, manage and supervise program staff; and, conduct annual program planning, including establishment of annual goals and performance evaluations; Develop and implement a comprehensive civic engagement strategy to build awareness, mobilize student engagement, and drive action on issues related to social justice, equality, voter rights, environmental conservation, and other civic learning subjects; Organize events, campaigns, and initiatives to promote voter education, registration and turnout among the student population, working with the Coordinator and student staff to implement; Develop, refine and oversee implementation of program evaluation tools ? both qualitative and quantitative ? with measurable outcomes for each of the distinct programs to assess student learning and program effectiveness. Provide leadership in order to design, implement, assess and manage civic learning and engagement programs in collaboration with academic and student support divisions that complement the mission of the College and the Strategic and Operational Planning goals and objectives; ensure tracking occurs at an institutional level, the course and section level, and the student level, through annual reports to the Department of Higher Education as requested; Establish, promote and sustain policies, processes, trainings, and procedures for community-based internships, service learning and other civic learning programs, ensuring compliance with any associated grants, the Brewer Center endowment, and alignment with the and MWCC Strategic and Operational Goals; Act as a connector and thought partner with colleagues across departments to align practices, protocols, and policies that directly impact the student experience, amplify opportunities for inclusive civic engagement, and support staff in their development of inclusive programmatic planning and execution; Prepare and submit reports and award/recognition applications as required by funding agencies and/or by college relative to performance outcomes and fiscal obligations, inclusive of an annual report for the Center and the Carnegie Classification in Civic Engagement; involve other departments and divisions as necessary; Work with the Grants Office, Center staff, and MWCC Foundation, Inc. to identify and pursue funding opportunities to sustain and enhance Center programs in alignment with the college's strategic and operational plans; Oversee community partnership development for the purposes of civic learning and engagement, identifying existing community needs in order to support student service activities and development and sustainability of reciprocal relationships within the greater community; Develop and promote cooperative and reciprocal relationships with faculty, students and community partners supporting civic learning and engagement; prepare community partners for hosting/supervising students, ensuring academic integrity where applicable; ensure preparation of students in intensive civic engagement experiences; Serve as a representation on local and national boards, committees and projects dedicated to civic engagement; Develop and maintain a repository of information and resources for faculty to engage in civic and service learning, as well as a plan for dissemination and faculty engagement; Provide oversight of all marketing and communication for the Brewer Center including website, social media and promotional materials; Ensure a lens of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is utilized in the development and delivery of all services and programs, in regular and deep collaboration with the DEI Committee and the Chief Diversity Executive; Prepare, manage and maintain related budgets; Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree required, or combination of commensurate degree and experience; Experience working with students, faculty, government officials and/or community based organizations; Experience with civic engagement, service learning and/or volunteer management. Desired Qualifications: Demonstrated success in civic engagement program administration, project design and management, and group facilitation; Experience in a community college environment; Ability to set priorities and effectively manage multiple projects at a time; Excellent written and oral communication skills.
