Mechanic - Maintenance

Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for production of API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) molecules located in Lebanon, IN.  This facility is Lilly’s largest investment in manufacturing capacity and is intended to provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities.  This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the startup team for a greenfield manufacturing site, and the successful candidate will help to build the processes and facility to enable a successful startup into GMP manufacturing operations.

Main Purpose and Objectives of Position:

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of all equipment and systems used in the process area, labs, and supporting utilities within the LP1 API manufacturing facility. This role involves performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure the facility operates efficiently and complies with all regulatory standards.

This role is for LP1 in Lebanon, IN. The role includes a short-term assignment at IAPI in Indianapolis between January 2025 and September 2025.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Safety: Conduct their daily activities in a manner that will cause no injuries to them or their co-workers.  They are also required to attend safety meetings and complete all health and safety related training.

  • Compliance: Complete all work in a timely manner and in accordance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) procedures.

  • Documentation: Complete all documentation associated with daily maintenance activities, including work order completion and post maintenance documentation.

  • Communication: Pass all vital information along to the appropriate parties when dealing with critical equipment issues. This is done both orally and in written reports. 

  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime and ensure continuous production.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance to extend the lifespan of equipment and reduce the likelihood of unexpected failures.

  • Use precision maintenance tools such as: Micrometer, Digital Caliper, Feeler gauges, Tension gauges, and Laser alignment tools.

  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment and systems.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and reliability of maintenance operations.

  • Diagnose mechanical wear, alignment, adjustment, and setup issues

  • Common Equipment the mechanic will be responsible for:

    • Process pumps (centrifugal, positive displacement, and turbine pumps) including troubleshooting, dismantling and reassembly.

    • Process columns, including troubleshooting, disassembly and reassembly

    • Equipment unique to the processes (centrifuges, homogenizers, vapor separators, agitators, gearboxes, process supply and exhaust fans etc.), including troubleshooting, dismantling and reassembly.



Basic Requirements:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 2 years of mechanical systems repair, industrial maintenance or equivalent is required.

  • Proficient use of CMMS (Maximo) and other Work order system.

  • Proficient with use of electronic devices, Smartphones, Tablets and laptops.

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Preferences:


  • Associates degree in a technical related discipline (i.e. Industrial Maintenance or Mechatronics).

  • 5 years of mechanical systems repair, industrial maintenance or equivalent.

  • Completion of Post Offer Exam or Completion of Work Simulation if applicable.

Additional Information:


  • This role is for LP1 in Lebanon, IN. The role includes a short-term assignment at IAPI in Indianapolis between January 2025 and September 2025

  • Tasks require entering manufacturing areas which require wearing appropriate PPE.

  • May be required to provide support outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
