Senior Reporting & Data Analyst

This position is located on the Cornell University Campus in Ithaca, New York. You will be expected to work on the Ithaca campus, although you may be permitted to perform a portion of your work remotely.

The Division for Budget and Planning is comprised of dedicated individuals organized into several service units to oversee several campus-wide operations and services, including the University Budget Office, Institutional Research and Planning, Capital & Space Planning, and the development of academic planning and business intelligence systems.

The University Budget Office, works with units across the university to develop, report and implement the Ithaca campus operating budget.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director of Annual Operating Budget & Consolidations, the Senior Reporting & Data Analyst plays a key role in the Budget Office, focusing on data aggregation, reporting, and ensuring the integrity of financial information. This position is essential for delivering accurate and timely financial data that supports the university's strategic planning and decision-making processes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Extracting, consolidating, and managing large datasets from various sources to develop and maintain a wide range of financial and budget reports, such as Sources & Uses, May Book, unit-specific dashboards, and reports generated from the university's budgeting software, Longview.
  • Validating HR data that feeds into the budgeting software on an annual basis to create position budgets, with all data subsequently flowing into the university's financial ERP system, Kuali Financials.
  • Support the annual operating budget cycle by performing comprehensive data reconciliations and validations within Longview, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all reports.
  • Create and maintain reports and tools that enhance budgeting practices across the campus community.
  • Drive continuous improvement by developing innovative tools and reports that improve data transparency and accessibility for end users.
  • Collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including college and departmental business administrators and technical staff, to maintain data integrity and consistency across all reporting platforms.


Position requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree with 5-7 years of experience in finance or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with complex datasets.
  • Detail-oriented and demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent organizational, forecasting, planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer-service oriented with strong communication skills, enabling the ability to effectively work with a broad range of staff across the University.
  • Sophisticated reasoning skills and ability to interpret established policies and procedures.

Preferred qualifications for the position include:
  • Knowledge of Cornell systems including but not limited to Kuali Financial System, Workday, OAS, and Longview.
  • Experience with Tableau and Tableau Prep.
  • Experience with Longview Planning or OLAP systems.
  • Experience with data visualization software.
  • Prior experience working in higher education.
