Staff Research Associate - Military Veterans

The Gaensler Lab at UCSF is seeking a motivated Staff Research Associate (SRA 1) to support translational and pre-clinical studies centered on a novel leukemia vaccine. Our mission is to enhance anti-leukemic immune responses in older patients with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) to improve relapse-free survival rates. The successful candidate will assist in evaluating immunological responses to engineered human leukemia vaccines, investigate the interactions between immune cells and the tumor microenvironment, and contribute to IND-enabling studies focused on immunotherapy approaches.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with basic and translational cancer research projects in cellular biology, immunology, and murine models. Help validate results and perform routine experimental tasks.
  • Conduct cell culture and standard cloning procedures under guidance.
  • Support gene expression studies and assist with western blot analysis.
  • Help develop and use murine models for immune therapeutic strategies.
  • Assist in maintaining a database for reagents and research samples.
  • Conduct experiments and accurately record data.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and participate in lab meetings and scientific events.

Expectations for Staff Research Associate (SRA 1):
  • Develop skills in laboratory techniques and contribute to research projects under supervision.
  • Work effectively within a team, supporting lab operations and contributing to project goals.
  • Show willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to different research tasks.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with cell culture and cloning techniques.
  • A foundational understanding of cellular biology and immunology.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks efficiently and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with team members and contribute to a positive research environment.

Training and Development:
  • The position offers training opportunities, including participation in local and national meetings and potential for co-authored publications, to support career development and growth in the field.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).
