Lecturer of Chinese Language | Brown University - Military Veterans

The Department of East Asian Studies at Brown University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Chinese language, renewable every three years, effective July 1, 2025. An M.A. degree in Chinese culture, linguistics, language pedagogy, or related fields is required and a Ph.D. degree in one of these fields is preferred. Candidates should be able to teach at all levels of the program with native or near-native fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) and a strong command of English. Priority will be given to those who have independently taught Chinese to English-speaking students at the college level. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and a commitment to diversity and inclusion are essential. Additionally, experience in developing teaching materials, organizing academic events, engaging in professional publications, and presenting at regional, national or international conferences, will be favorably regarded. All candidates must submit a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a teaching portfolio (including a list of courses taught, syllabi for courses where they served as the lead instructor or taught independently, a statement of teaching philosophy, sample teaching materials, and recent teaching evaluations), and three letters of recommendation. Please also provide a link to a classroom teaching demonstration video (approximately 30 minutes).
