Technician III- Mehta Research Group Technician III- Mehta Research Group (Part Time) Who we are: The Mehta Research Group (http://mehta.human.cornell.edu) at Cornell University seeks a lab technician with previous experience in developing lateral flow assays for point-of-care testing. Our Research Group primarily works in India in the states of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh and coastal Ecuador. Our focus is on vulnerable populations, including mothers and children and those suffering from infectious diseases such as HIV infection, Tuberculosis, Dengue virus infection, Zika virus infection, and Malaria. Our research is on: a) identifying risk factors that predict poor health in our communities as early as possible through active surveillance; b) inventing field-friendly devices such as the Cornell NutriPhone and FeverPhone to enable community-level or point-of-need diagnoses; and c) intervening to modify the identified risk factors mainly through sustainable interventions. We also work with implementing and developing guidelines with project partners, synthesizing evidence to help inform guidelines and policies. What you will do: The Technician III position will focus on the development of lateral flow assays for nutrition, infection, and food safety in human or food samples. The project builds off of our Nutriphone (https://www.nature.com/articles/srep28237) and Feverphone technology (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30896928/). The lab technician will be working in collaboration with a team of biomedical engineers, global health practitioners, and infectious disease experts. The prospective applicant must be highly organized, personable, energetic, and motivated to work with others in a group setting. There will be continuous management opportunities, intellectual engagement, and the development of scientific communication skills. This position is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining biomedical research experience for graduate or professional schools. This is a renewable 6-month appointment depending upon satisfactory job performance and availability of funding. A cover letter and resume are required for further consideration for this position. Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree with laboratory training of up to 2 years. 1-year experience and proficiency in developing lateral flow immunoassays for point-of-care testing or equivalent combination of education and experience. Self-motivated and able to work independently. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Detail-oriented and thorough in completing and communicating the results of work tasks. Preferred Qualifications: Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree or higher in a related area of science or engineering with a minimum 1-year working experience with immunoassay development. Previous experience working in a medical or scientific research laboratory setting. Background knowledge in Biology and/or Biochemistry. Experience in common computing software platforms (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
