Job Summary
The COTA 1 performs patient treatments and patient care activities under the general supervision of a Registered/Licensed Occupational Therapist. The position is directly responsible to an Occupational Therapist for performing duties as assigned and supervised by the Therapist.

- Certified Occ Therapist Asst (COTA)
- Must possess current National Certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and be licensed by the California Board of Occupational Therapy
- Must have American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certification or UC Davis Health CPR
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Must be able to perform all responsibilities of a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant as required and assigned by PM&R (Physical Medicine and Rehab) Leadership
- Knowledge of current OTR, COTA, and Aide rules of practice according to the Occupational Therapy Board of California
- Technical competency in occupational therapy treatment modalities including activities of daily living and transfer training, strengthening, coordination, balance, range of motion, perceptual-cognitive skills training, wheelchair manipulation skills, and fabrication of adapted devices
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas to staff, patients, and other health team members regarding patient progress
- Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with patients and their families
- Ability to train family in follow-through for home therapy programs
- Knowledge of appropriate information required for patient and supply record-keeping
- Ability to accurately record clear progress notes and other written reports as requested
- Ability to organize time
- Ability to be flexible and cooperative
- Willingness to assist other staff members with their caseloads
Preferred Qualifications
- AOTA Clinical Educator certification or willingness to obtain

- 90% - Implements established occupational therapy programs in assigned areas of responsibility in collaboration with and/or under general supervision of the registered occupational therapist. optimal benefit from the program
- 5% - Educational Activities
- 5% - Miscellaneous assignments as required.

- Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient's medial record
- Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day
- Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility
- Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required and serve patients throughout the institution
Special Requirements
- This is a critical position, as defined by UC policy and local procedures, and as such, employment is contingent upon the successful completion of background check(s), including but not limited to criminal record history background check(s)
- This position is designated as a mandated reporter under CANRA and UC policy, and employment is contingent on compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and training requirements
