Vocational Services Specialist - Military Veterans

Additional Information About the Role



  • Shift information:  The shift is typically M – F (8 AM – 5 PM) and occasionally support must be provided outside normal work hours.  Flex scheduling is offered in these situations. 


  • Types of clients: Providing vocational services and resources to adults with serious mental illness, some with co-occurring substance use and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities


  • Location:  Office Location is North County – Graham Road in Florissant but this is a community-based position, and you will work in the communities throughout the greater St. Louis Metro area


  • Typical Day:  4-5 appointments in the community that might include assisting an individual with their job search, providing support services to help someone maintain employment, or meeting with an employer to learn about their staffing needs.


Overview

BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center that provides and coordinates behavioral health services for more than 8,000 seriously mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. François, Iron and Washington counties.  As an Administrative Agent of the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), BJC Behavioral Health serves as a major point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by DMH and is responsible for serving as gatekeeper to the public mental health system.

Role Purpose

Facilitates linkage and coordination with area employment resources that increase the opportunities for meaningful employment and educational experiences.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develops a variety of employment and educational opportunities for BJC Behavioral Health clients.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with the business community to establish and maintain employment opportunities for clients.
  • Acts as a liaison with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and other social service agencies for staff and clients.
  • Provides consultation to staff and clients in area of employment.
