Requisition Number: F_240142 Department: School of Computing-9301 Description of Work: The School of Computing and the Nebraska Intelligent MoBile Unmanned Systems ( NIMBUS ) Lab at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln ( UNL ), is seeking applicants for a non-tenure leading Research Assistant Professor position. The successful applicant will work in a team environment whose mission is to develop robotic systems to interact closely with the natural and built environment while working with end users of these systems. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a high-impact, nationally recognized research program in a self-identified area of applied robotics research or another closely related area. They will be expected to effectively obtain and leverage external and internal support (grants, fee revenue, etc.) for research; work with interdisciplinary teams; mentor students; publish in high-quality, high-impact peer-reviewed conferences and journals; and participate in scientific meetings and other appropriate professional activities. The successful candidate will have strong electrical, computing, and/or mechanical engineering skills and be interested in developing a collaborative program of applied research in robotics. For example, this may include sensor development, applied robotic perception, algorithm development, or other areas of interest. We are seeking candidates with a completed doctorate at the time the appointment begins, to begin immediately and no later than January 2025. Apportionment of duties is anticipated to be 90% research and 10% service. Responsibilities Developing and executing leading-edge grant-funded research concerned with robotic interactions with the natural or built environment. Providing electrical, computational, or mechanical expertise for interdisciplinary grant writing teams. Collaborating with researchers on research design, data management, and data analytic procedures. Providing instructional/educational experiences to faculty research affiliates and graduate students. Mentoring staff, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate and undergraduate students affiliated with the NIMBUS Lab. Relevant disciplines include computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. Demonstrated evidence of expertise in applied robotics development. Demonstrated evidence of expertise in robotics-related research methods (e.g., design, development, or testing of algorithms, electrical, and/or mechanical systems). Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent collaborative problem-solving skills. Strong self-motivation and leadership skills. Ability to manage and balance the demands of multiple projects and deadlines. Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in grant writing and evidence of the potential to secure external grants independently or collaboratively.
