Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Agriculture Diesel Mechanic, located at the Bay City Factory.
Job Summary:
Employees maintain diesel equipment operational by completing inspections and preventative maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies, making adjustments and alignments, and keeping accurate records.
Prerequisites:
Work history includes the ability to/have:
- Degree and/or course work from vocational schools in diesel or automotive operation or maintenance.
- Must have physical ability to stand strenuous and dangerous work environments
- Possess physical strength to operate heavy and power-driven equipment with manual or electronic methods of operation
- Ability to work in teams and take direction when needed
- Ability to communicate and interact both verbally and written
- Possess a keen eye to details and good decision making skills
- Manage effectively, emergency situations, work pressure and stress
- Ability to complete work projects on time and in an effective manner
- Possess a deep analytical understanding and problem solving skills
- Can work independently with minimum supervision
- Good relationship building ability with fellow employees, shareholders, and truck drivers.
- CDL License or ability to obtain one within reasonable amount of time.
Preferred Prerequisites:
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
Job Duties:
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests;
- Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventative maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures.
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, and hydraulics. Make adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
- Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.
- Complies with Federal and State vehicle requirements by testing engine safety and combustion control standards.
- Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting as needed.
- Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventative maintenance, and calling for repairs as needed.
- Contain costs by using warranties, evaluating service and part options.
- Keeps supplies ready and available by inventorying stock, placing orders, verifying receipt.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical and regulation publications.
- Enhance agricultural maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job tasks.
