Job Summary and Qualifications
So, what’ll I be doing?
The Principle Systems Engineer’s role is to lead and manage the building and integration of systems and platforms. Candidates provide engineering skills that cover a broad range of IT disciplines such as Azure, database, website administration, network system setup, and automation. Candidates are expected to be capable of meeting objectives with very little supervision. We need motivated, independent engineers who can work well within a team, effectively communicate thoughts and ideas, and bring a high level of innovation and quality.

You’ll be joining the System Engineering team! Our team acts as leaders in both the Engineering and Operational space in our org. With every Engineer empowered to make decisions on the platforms and infrastructure they own, you’ll be expected to improve, automate, and maintain your owned systems.

Sounds great! What would my general responsibilities be?
- Works with stakeholders to create requirements for new infrastructure systems and platforms both on premise and in the cloud.
- Responsible for leading their “sphere of responsibility” in the Azure / Windows space.
- Participates in team strategy planning.
- Defines project plan and tasks.
- Leads efforts to create infrastructural architecture around new systems and platforms.
- Leads implementation efforts of systems and platforms, delivering quality solutions in a timely manner in compliance with defined requirements.
- Responsible for a specific technology stack within the team (e.g. Azure, GCP, Terraform, Storage, Microstrategy, Atlassian, etc.).
- Works with application delivery managers and application developers to deploy custom software and create automated deployment solutions.
- Provides support to application development teams for infrastructure needs.
- Leads activities to proactively maintain and upgrade platforms and systems, preferably with automation.
- Responsible for defining and executing operational procedures for systems and platforms in their areas of expertise, preferably with automation.
- Works with the DBA team to integrate systems and applications with databases.
- Manages documentation of infrastructure standards.
- Develops automation capabilities to automate the deployment and maintenance of systems and platforms.
- Identify, investigate, evaluate, and quickly become proficient in new technologies and technical disciplines that are of significance to HealthTrust.
- Coaches team on use of approved methodologies, processes and toolsets defined within the operations and infrastructure services group.
- Mentoring junior engineers.

What experience or skills would help me excel in this role?
- Significant experience in deploying technically complex infrastructure and computing solutions across platforms and components, preferably with automation.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and maintain documentation.
- Experience in building automation using tools such as ansible, terraform, powershell, command shell, scripting, database and/or application programming.
- Specific platform knowledge in one or more key areas of cloud architecture and/or Application platforms such as Azure, GCP, Terraform, Microstrategy, Atlassian, etc.
- Experience working with virtualization technologies, such as VMWare, cloud virtualization, storage.
- Solid understanding and experience with operating system concepts and practical implementation of those fundamentals in a large-scale production environment.
- Experience supporting custom application development.
- Nice to have, but not required, experience with the technologies utilized by our organization:
- Cloud IaaS – Azure, GCP, AWS
- Cloud PaaS technologies – Azure functions, Logic Apps, Webapps, GKS/AKS, etc.
- Automation & System Management – Github, Ansible Tower, Azure DevOps
- Configuration Management – Terraform, Ansible
- Network technologies – F5s, DNS
- Security technologies - Ping Federate, certificate management, etc.
- Virtualization technologies – Vmware
