Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Responsible for planning, scheduling and supervising housekeeping personnel assigned to Environmental Services. Directs and controls the performance of all daily activities to ensure a clean, orderly, and aesthetic condition in the assigned facility. Ensures these activities are performed and documented in accordance with local codes and legislation JC guidelines and requirements, and facility polices and procedure. Ensure accurate EVS staff payroll is done daily.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Under the direction of the Environmental Services Director, supervises programs to maintain the cleanliness of the assigned facility.

  • Implements departmental goals, objectives and plans and adheres to departmental policies and procedures.

  • Monitors and ensures institutional compliance with federal, state and local safety environmental protection, and fire protection regulations and standards, as well as accreditations requirements.

  • Instructs and trains employees in the use of new equipment and cleaning methods.

  • Ensures compliance of established standards and work procedures in accordance with the established policies and procedure of Del Sol Medical Center system.

  • Institutes and monitors work schedules to assure full coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Plans the daily activities of assigned personnel and periodically inspects jobs completed for quality of work and compliance with all environmental services standards.

  • Inspection and evaluation of the physical and aesthetic conditions of the assigned Del Sol Medical Center Facility. Reports recommendations for areas that may require renovation and /or repairs.

  • Report any and all unsafe conditions and ensure the immediate response to all calls for cleaning up of unsafe spills, etc.

  • Maintains documentation to include the following: A) Records of patient rooms and critical areas that have been clean. B) Miscellaneous records documenting job completion. C) Employee personnel, training records and attendance records.

  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment beyond repair.

  • Assist the environmental Services Director in the orientation of new employees and provides continuing in-service training for existing personnel.

  • Ensure effective work flow, responds to special requests, and ensures the completion of preventive maintenance schedules.

  • Assist Environmental Services Director preparation of periodic reports, the compliance to budget performance, and conducting departmental meetings.

  • Conducts documented surveys of all areas identify work standards, workflow, and environmental hazards and unsafe practices.

  • Responsible for daily and periodic reports of Environmental Services activities, work done, in progress and scheduled.

  • Responsible for spot-checking work progress and activities on a regular basis. Responsibilities include the quality of the work performed, the timeliness of employees performing the work, and for ensuring compliance with minimum standards of quality and quantity.

  • Periodically inspects machines and equipment for preventing maintenance needs and accident prevention.

  • Trains and observes employees to ensure the proper use of prescribed safety equipment and procedures techniques.

  • Aware of potential safety hazards of noise, toxic, and other hazards.

  • Assist in the compliance and review of the established system for reporting and investigating all incidents that involve illness and injury as a result of environmental services activities. Assists in the preparation of reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.

  • Conforms to safety standards of the department by using proper safety equipment. Inspects departmental areas to ensure the provision for fire prevention equipment and protection, other safety first aid supplies.

  • Performs individually or as a member of group assigned task during emergencies such as fires, snow removal or disasters.

  • Performs additional duties as may be necessary to fulfill the hospital’s obligations to include participation in safety subcommittees.

  • Communicates, cooperates and performs related duties with other members of the hospital staff in courteous and effective manner to achieve overall hospital goals and objectives.

  • Responds to requests from patients, physicians and visitors in a courteous and effective manner. Always demonstrates positive interpersonal skills.

  • Promotes positive customer service with internal and external customers using AIDET.

  • Responsible for maintenance and training of bed tracking system.

  • Responsible for accurate payroll.

  • Other duties assigned.

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

None

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School Certificate or equivalent Preferred. Previous experience in healthcare environment

PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Minimum of three years experience housekeeping in general with at least one year in leadership position

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of methods, materials and techniques related to the requirements for effective cleaning, sanitation, and maintaining aesthetic condition of the assigned facility.

  • Knowledge of work-related occupational hazards and proper safety precautions.

  • Knowledge of techniques and practices of work standards, techniques, and general practices necessary to comply with JC requirements.

  • Ability to guide and direct others in the completion of assigned tasks and through effective communication motivate and secure the cooperation of assigned staff.

  • Ability to manage limited resources and meet deadlines and time frames.

  • Ability to solve problems, resolve personnel issues and establish and timeframes
