Cardozo School of Law Location: Brookdale Center, 55 Fifth Avenue, NY, NY Categories: Academic Administration, Student Services Position Summary: The Cardozo Law Institute in Holocaust and Human Rights (CLIHHR) is hiring a Program Coordinator. CLIHHR is a law school-based center, working to strengthen laws, norms, and institutions to prevent mass atrocities. The Institute uses a systematic three-part strategy to prevent atrocity crimes, protect victims and survivors, and rebuild societies post-atrocity. Housed within CLIHHR, the Benjamin B. Ferencz Human Rights and Atrocity Prevention Clinic (Clinic) trains the next generation of advocates and offers students the opportunity to work on human rights projects and cases. Position Responsibilities: The Program Coordinator will work closely with the Director of the Institute and is responsible for administrative, technical, and research support functions. The Program Coordinator has lead responsibility for coordinating lectures, panel events, and conferences relevant to the work of the Institute. She/he will manage the daily internal and external operations of the Institute, edit and assist in the finalization of CLIHHR's publications, organize materials for the Clinic, assist with fundraising, manage the Institute's social media accounts, and work with the Director to further CLIHHR's various projects. Administrative support: Oversee the planning of events including but not limited to, organizing and coordinating off-site and on-site meetings; Coordinate monthly lunchtime lectures, panel events, conferences, book launches, and movie screenings; Manage and oversee the Institute's administrative needs, invoices, and expenses, including internal and external reimbursements and creating budgets; Determine needs for office supplies and make requests or purchases accordingly; Coordinate travel plans for students, staff, and consultants, including obtaining internal approval for travel funds in advance; Coordinate with others in the law school in relevant units, such as special events, finance, communications, information technologies, personnel, student groups, and the like; Assist with the Clinic, as needed by clinical faculty; Assist in the management of human rights case files and the use of Clinic management software; Compose two newsletters per year about the Institute's activities for external distribution; Assist in drafting yearly annual reports for funders and partner institutions; Supervise student interns (referred to as a student law fellow) to assist with these activities. Technical support: Maintain and develop CLIHHR mailing list on MailChimp; Maintain and develop the Institute's various social media platforms (e.g., Facebook and Twitter); Maintain and develop the Institute's archive of event photographs on Dropbox and Google Drive; Manage general email account for the Institute and direct messages appropriately based on content; Ensure students enrolled in the Clinic have access to all necessary information on Canvas, the network drive, and any other information system as necessary; Maintain a database of former students who were involved with the Institute and/or participated in the Clinic. Research support: Conduct background research on issues related to the work of the Institute and Clinic, as needed, including international human rights, international criminal law, international refugee law, genocide prevention, transitional justice, and human rights conditions in various relevant countries; Provide other research on specific human rights case projects of the Institute and Clinic, as needed; Provide development assistance, including the writing and editing of grant proposals; Assist in the writing and editing of publications of the Institute or Clinic. Confronting Structural Violence Law Teaching Guides Project: Assist the Director/contributing consultants with editing, fact-checking, and formatting Guides for publication; Manage the Project's marketing strategy; Oversee contributing consultants by ensuring they are onboarded with Human Resources, meeting project deadlines, and communicating with the Institute Director; Promote Project through social media and connect Guides to current events; Supervise research assistants during the academic year/summer who assist with research and completion of Guides. Experience & Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years prior related experience are required. A combination of an advanced degree and prior related experience may be considered; Experience with event planning; Experience with managing personnel; Experience with, study of, or interest in human rights, human rights law, refugee law, international relations, or related fields. Skills & Competencies: Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; Ability to manage work on multiple projects effectively and efficiently; Ability to work under strict deadlines; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint); Strong working knowledge of social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), Google Drive, Dropbox, and MailChimp; Strong interpersonal and communications skills; Strong research and writing skills; Analytical thinking and rapid problem-solving skills; Background in fundraising/development a plus; Fluency in another language (Spanish, Portuguese, or French a plus).
