Biostatistician - Military Veterans

Job Summary:
The Betthauser Neuroimaging Lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our rapidly growing team as a Biostatistician to support a 5-year federally funded R01 project examining multi-cohort factors that influence Alzheimer's disease biomarker and dementia timing using existing data. Dr. Tobey Betthauser is the principal lab investigator and an investigator at the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) and the Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR). The lab develops and applies novel modeling methods to neuroimaging and fluid biomarkers of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, to understand the timing of disease processes, the factors that contribute to when disease begins, and how this timing might relate to clinical symptoms and postmortem confirmation of brain pathology. Principal Duties:
This Biostatistician will work directly with Dr. Betthauser, staff, and students, and will play an integral role in conducting statistical analysis of mid- to large (2,000-10,000 participants) multi-cohort datasets containing a variety of variables (e.g., imaging and fluid biomarkers, cognitive assessments, demographics, and associated data) to facilitate aging and dementia research in the Betthauser Lab. The Biostatistician will work with the Betthauser Team to develop and test hypotheses, particularly through developing and carrying out statistical analysis plans for manuscript publication. Additional duties include data curation, summary, processing, and analysis. They will be responsible for writing/editing relevant analysis sections for manuscripts for publication (e.g., methods, results), contributing to grant writing, and writing analysis descriptions for conference abstracts or presentations of research findings at local, national, and international events and conferences. The Biostatistician will communicate effectively with researchers and scientists and fulfill data and analyses requests.

Applicant CV and cover letter should demonstrate skill in utilizing programming languages to conduct data visualization and statistical analysis. Experience with aging and dementia research, brain neuroimaging including volumetric magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and/or positron emission tomography (PET), and/or analyzing neuropsychology, neuroimaging, and/or fluid biomarker data is preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities: Provides biostatistical consulting and assists with and contributes intellectually to the development of study design and methodology in collaboration with physicians and scientists conducting biomedical, life sciences, clinical, and population health research.

• 45% Evaluates, prepares, analyzes, and interprets existing data and sources, selects and applies appropriate statistical methods, and prepares summarized reports
• 25% Assists with development of research study designs for research projects
• 10% Assists with designing and implementing statistical methods and applicable resource materials used for research projects
• 10% Advises on best practices and established policies, procedures, and regulations and conducts biostatistical analysis for internal and external stakeholder groups
• 10% Contributes to preparing, writing, editing, and submitting research manuscripts, presentations, reports, research grant and contract proposals and/or post-award reports to funding agencies

Education:
Preferred
Master's Degree
Degree in a data-oriented science (e.g., statistics, psychology, neuroscience, epidemiology, computer science, or related field) preferred.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Experience interacting efficiently with mid- to large-sized datasets (hundreds to thousands of participants), including preparing, cleaning, and performing quality control for analysis.
- Experience with at least one programming language (such as R, SAS, or Stata) to interact efficiently with large data sets.
- Experience with development of statistical analysis plans, creating data visualizations, and conducting statistical analyses (such as descriptive statistics, survival analyses, regression models, linear-mixed effects models, non-parametric methods).

Preferred:
- Experience working in a team environment, academic, and/or scientific research group.
- Experience working with aging and dementia research, neuropsychology, neuroimaging, and/or fluid biomarker data.
- Experience with the preparation of scientific writing (abstracts, posters, papers, and grants).

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

The starting salary for the position is $72,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
