Researches, interprets, applies and clarifies University policy in this area and exercises independent judgment in day-to-day student affairs matters. Uses principles of wholistic and developmental academic advising and knowledge of teaching and learning theory to promote academic, career, and life goals in an effort to support student retention, timeliness to degree, academic success, as well as intellectual and personal development. The full salary range for the Student Advisor 3 is $56,000.00 - $96,400.00 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements. Requirements: Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required Experience Requirements 4 - 7 years of related experience. Knowledge of multiple majors, colleges, and schools. Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving. Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Ability to multi-task. Knowledge of the applicable federal and state regulations governing areas related to responsibilities of the position including the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a service environment that is subject to frequent interruptions and skill in setting priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities. Demonstrated experience with Banner. Experience implementing successful academic interventions to overcome the challenges faced by diverse student populations. Key Responsibilities: Provides advice and assistance to students on all aspects of their academic experience, including progression and requirement matters for the department/school/college. Serves as the professional academic advisor for CHASS majors and minors by using wholistic and developmental academic advising techniques with students to examine, clarify and meet their educational, career and lifegoals in light of student strengths and interests, while reinforcing student self-direction, motivation, achievement and self-sufficiency. Informs and assists students in interpreting their academic progress toward timely completion of requirements (university, college and majors). 30% Advises on complex transfers from other institutions such as those in the midst of advanced degree completion and coursework in other programs. Provides initial communication and program planning for entering freshmen and transfer students by interpreting past work and current test scores, and communication of university expectations. Prepares summaries of transfer courses and units of entering transfer students. Communicates with CHASS staff and Undergraduate Admissions staff to correct errors in transfer course evaluations. 10% Identifies students with GPA or progress problems, advises students, and recommends appropriate courses of action by the department/school/college (e.g., academic probation, dismissal). Examines trends in student success and determines appropriate programming to provide adequate advising services for students including recommendation of appropriate faculty mentors. Reviews records of students in academic difficulty to determine eligibility to continue in major.
