Lead Data Engineer - Military Veterans

Design and build robust, scalable solutions and data pipelines to automate the ingestion, processing and delivery of all types of data: structured and unstructured, batch, and real-time streaming data. Break down complex data issues and resolve them. Use analytical, programming and technical skills to ensure that data ingestion pipelines are scalable, repeatable, secure, and can serve multiple users within. Acquire data from a variety of different sources, getting it in the right formats, assuring that it adheres to data quality standards, and assuring that users can get that data quickly. Build robust systems with an eye on automation and the long-term maintenance and support of the application. Work directly with the product owner and end-users to constantly deliver products in a highly collaborative and agile environment.
Position is based out of and reports to Thrivent Financials HQ in Minneapolis, MN, but allows for the option to telecommute from a home office anywhere in the United States.
Specific Skills and Requirements
Must also have following experience:
At least 5 years of experience in each of the following:
- Data engineering experience using Big Data Technologies: Apache Spark and Hadoop;
- Experience with JVM Languages such as Java or Scala;
- Experience building data pipelines, CICD pipelines, and fit for purpose data stores;
- Experience working with Spark streaming and Kafka;
- Designing and architecting data pipelines;
At least 3 years of experience with each of the following:
- Working with AWS and Azure;
- Working with DB2 and other relational databases;
- Working with Snowflake and Databricks;
- Working with Elastic Search, Kibana and Tableau;
- Working with Airflow;
- Working with Jenkins and GitHub;
- Working in an agile environment using JIRA;
Requires demonstrable experience with each of the following:
- Datawarehouse model using STAR schema;
- Modeling data in Snowflake and Databricks;
- Building reusable frameworks to reduce manual effort;
- Experience developing and executing test cases;
- Providing technical guidance to teams by defining and executing POCs;
- Acting as a subject matter expertise in data analysis, building optimized data pipelines, deploy and maintain for the large volume of heterogenous data to create enterprise data lake; and
- Participating in setting strategy and standards through data architecture and implementation leveraging big data and analytics tools and technologies.
Education and experience requirements:
Requires a minimum of a bachelors or foreign equivalent degree in Applied Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field plus 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as a data engineer, specialist or consultant, or closely related occupation.
Current Salary: $155,000 per year
