Responsibilities
About the role:
As a Sr Business Intelligence Engineer, you will be working in one of the world's largest data warehouse environments in the automotive finance industry supporting originations functions. You will help build, manage, and maintain one of the largest cross-functional databases at GM Financial as well as work on Business Intelligence reporting and dashboarding solutions that are used by thousands of users in North America. The Sr BI Engineer has deep expertise in the design, creation, management, and business use of large datasets. You will have excellent communication skills to be able to work with business owners to develop and define key business questions and to build data sets that answer those questions. The Sr BI Engineer should have expertise in designing, implementing, and operating stable, scalable, low-cost solutions to flow data from various systems and sources into targets such as the data warehouse, other data repositories/solutions, and into end-user facing applications. You should be able to work with business customers in a fast-paced environment understanding the business requirements and implementing reporting solutions. Above all, you should bring your passion for working with huge data sets and bringing datasets together to answer business questions and drive change.
JOB DUTIES
- Engage with leadership in the originations organization and diversified functional groups to understand the needs and recommend business intelligence and reporting solutions
- Own the design, implementation, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards, to drive key business decisions
- Partner with technology teams to define, extract, transform, and load data from many data sources using SQL and other tools
- Automate and simplify self-service or reporting pipelines, including improving ETL workflows, automatic alarming and performance tuning
- Conduct deep dive analyses of business problems and data issues and formulate conclusions and recommendations for leadership and technical teams
- Participate in strategic and tactical planning discussions and provide data insights Challenge business teams to think differently about how they digest and use the data insights to make informed decisions
- Make recommendations for new metrics, techniques, and strategies to improve business KPI's
- Work with data and software development teams to enable the appropriate capture and storage of key data points
Qualifications
What makes you a dream candidate?
- Relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: Data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence or business analytics
- Hands-on experience in writing complex, highly-optimized queries across large data sets
- Experience in scripting languages like Python, Unix, Java, etc
- Demonstrated strength in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing
- Experience with data integration tools such as Informatica or Azure Data Factory, etc
- Experience in working and delivering end-to-end projects independently
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI data modeling
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers
- Ability to manage assigned tasks and responsibilities with little to no supervision in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced analytical skills
- Detail oriented with a keen focus on accuracy and effective reporting
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Understanding of auto finance industry loan operations
Experience and Education
- 5+ years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence or business analytics required
- 5+ years of hands on experience in writing complex, highly optimized queries across large data sets required
- 2+ years of experience in scripting languages like Python, Unix, Java, etc required
- 7+ years of experience with ETL tools such as Informatica or others; experience designing multi-dimensional reports preferred
- 5+ years of report development experience preferred
- 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Power BI data modeling preferred

OUR BUSINESS & OUR HISTORY
GM Financial was founded as AmeriCredit in September 1992 and opened its first branch office in Fort Worth, Texas. On October 1, 2010, AmeriCredit Corp. was acquired by General Motors Company and renamed General Motors Financial Company, Inc. (GM Financial). In 2011, GM Financial acquired FinanciaLinx to serve GM dealers and customers throughout Canada. In November 2012, GM Financial announced the acquisition of Ally Financial Inc.’s international operations. The majority of those acquisitions were finalized in 2013, with the remaining market, a 35 percent equity interest in a joint venture in China, acquired in January 2015. In October 2017, GM Financial completed the sale of its European financial subsidiaries and branches as part of General Motors’ sale of the Opel and Vauxhall businesses to Peugeot S.A.
