Title: Assistant Director of Student Involvement Position Type: Staff Full-Time Days Per Week: Monday - Friday Hours Per Week: 40 VP Area: Student Life Department: Student Involvement Position Summary As a member of the Division of Student Life and the Student Involvement team, the Assistant Directors of Student Involvement assist in leading efforts that engage students in meaningful campus involvement and align their work to advance our strategic plans. These positions support student success by mentoring and coaching through the development of rich relationships. The assistant directors work directly with student leaders and collaborate across the university to provide community and leadership development opportunities that enhance the student experience. As a member of the Student Involvement team, the assistant directors are responsible for serving as active members of the staff in presence and in communication, maintaining a high level of professionalism, and completing various administrative tasks that support the daily operations of the department. In addition, this assistant director is responsible for working closely with student leaders by focusing on the development of rich mentoring relationships. This position also works with other Student Involvement Assistant Directors by creating an environment that engages students in transformative co-curricular learning experiences and promotes positive growth and development. This assistant director enhances the student experience by fostering greater alignment between university values and the activities and actions of student organizations and the fraternities and sororities on campus. Specifically, this position provides direct advisement to the Panhellenic Council and serves as a chapter mentor to the Panhellenic sororities. This position is also responsible for providing direct advisement to the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) and as a chapter mentor to the MGC fraternities and sororities. This assistant director also engages all fraternity and sorority members in campus-wide programs (including campus traditions and late-night events); and develops activities welcoming to all students. Preferred Education and Experience Master's degree in higher education, college student personnel, counseling, or related field is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with two to four years of related experience working with student organizations, student activities, sororities and fraternities, and/or leadership development, as well as experience advising students from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Job Duties Student Involvement Team Serve as an active member of the Student Involvement staff, contribute to a relationship-rich environment that fosters student growth and success, and support broader department programs and events (i.e. new student orientation, fall/spring organization fairs, student tailgating, formal recruitment and intake processes, and Homecoming) Assist with and attend selected high-risk contracted events and programs hosted within the department Monitor budgets and guide spending for program initiatives as needed Negotiate, review, and request contracts with agents/students to plan events Align assessment and reporting mechanisms with the improvement and strategic planning of the department, division, and university Develop and maintain supportive campus partnerships with colleagues and university departments Meet with the Associate Director of Student Involvement on a regular basis, actively participate in team meetings, and assume additional responsibilities within the scope of the position as assigned by the associate director Advising and Mentorship Develop a relationship-rich culture by serving as a chapter mentor to the members and student leaders of the Panhellenic chapters and the Multicultural Greek Council chapters Advise and support the Panhellenic Council and the Multicultural Greek Council, empowering students to take ownership of their community and experience Develop and maintain relationships with fraternity and sorority community constituents including inter/national headquarters staff, advisory leadership, faculty/staff advisors, alumni, and families Foster relationships with students that model care for the individual, inclusive excellence, personal and peer accountability, and integration with their campus experience Promote a culture of respect with and among student leaders that exemplifies the Elon Honor Code, high ethic of care and positive bystander behavior Programming and Development Lead the development of fraternity and sorority campus-wide events and programs that encourage broader inclusion of all students, build community, and bring the entire campus together, including Greek Week Facilitate opportunities that encourage deeper collaborative work and foster a sense of community among the fraternity and sorority community, including individual chapters and governing councils Partner with the Kernodle Center for Civic Life to support service and philanthropy initiatives for student organizations, including the fraternities and sororities Coordinate the recognition of student organization leaders and advisors through planning, organizing, and implementing the annual Dr. Leo M. Lambert Student Organization Awards Ceremony in partnership with the Student Government Association Promote and engage student organization involvement and participation in campus-wide athletic events in support of fan engagement initiatives, including Homecoming Week events and programs Identify opportunities for chapter leaders to assist in the development of the late-night calendar and integrate the fraternity and sorority community into campus late night and weekend programming initiatives Model and promote inclusive excellence and the celebration of diverse identities, experiences, and perspectives between and among fraternities and sororities Coordinate council officer attendance at regional and/or national student leadership development conferences, including registration, travel, and accommodations Serve as primary contact and reviewer for Panhellenic and MGC council and chapter event requests and approvals Provide guidance/training and connect students to campus resources to help ensure fraternity and sorority events follow established University policies, procedures, and practices Division of Student Life Positively represent Student Involvement, the Division of Student Life, and Elon University in all communications, presentations, and campus involvement Collaborate with division and university partners to enhance the student experience Support departmental strategic planning, goal setting, priority completion, evaluation and assessment, and data-driven decision-making Support university events, including, but not limited to: Convocations, Commencement, Family Weekend, Homecoming, and events related to Admissions and/or New Student Orientation Serve as a member of a Student Life Care and Response Team, which includes either serving in a rotational on-call emergency response role or providing initial outreach and follow-up support for student concerns Serve on university, divisional, or departmental committees, task forces, and search committees Other related duties as assigned by the Associate Director Copyright 2024 Jobelephant.com Inc.
