The Chemistry Lab Assistant is a position in our department resulting from significant growth in our faculty size and research output. The lab assistant is responsible for logistical operations for a large medicinal chemistry lab (approx. 6k square feet), supporting 10-15 scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and technicians in the Sandler Neurosciences Center building on the Mission Bay campus as well as support for 20-30 external chemists. The incumbent will be supervised by the head of the Medicinal Chemistry branch of the Drug Discovery Core. Specifically, the lab assistant has responsibility for the purchasing, storing and issuing of equipment and supplies; advising SRA, specialists and/or faculty members on laboratory rules and procedures. It is absolutely critical that all functions are carried out with strict attention to SAFETY protocols prescribed by UCSF and the head of the Medicinal Chemistry group. The lab assistant will work with the head of medicinal chemistry and EHS to maintain a safe laboratory, resolve any safety findings report, and track the lab personnel safety training. As well as the management of the controlled substance inventory. The lab assistant will be responsible for maintaining an inventory of all lab consumables, organizing and maintaining our chemical reagent collection, and organizing and maintaining our medicinal chemistry compound library. The lab assistant will also assist in the traffic of all medicinal chemistry compound materials into and out of the lab. The lab assistant will manage the active pharmaceutical ingredient stock inventory and database. The lab assistant will prepare samples from the medicinal chemistry lab for biological testing. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $28.92 - $34.81 (Hourly Rate).
