Assistant Professor - English FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. The College of Staten Island seeks applicants for appointment in the Department of English to a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with specializations in fiction writing and contemporary Latine literature. Preference will be given to those who work in both areas and can teach courses in Spanish; however, applicants from a broad range of areas are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have a successful teaching record, a strong record of fiction publishing, and experience mentoring students. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate classes in creative writing and literature, including those cross-listed with the Department of World Languages and Literatures and the interdisciplinary Minor in Latin American, Caribbean, and Latina/o Studies, and participate in service to the Department and the College. QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. MFA or PhD degree in fiction writing, literature (English or Spanish), or a related area. Also required are teaching experience, demonstrated scholarship or creative achievement, and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. COMPENSATION $75,465 - $90,375 CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
