WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:

The Vice President will be responsible for providing executive oversight for the strategic planning and execution of the overall business systems solutions for Biomedical Services (Biomed).  The VP will own the management of the strategic product vision, integration strategy, release planning strategy, software delivery, and provide business application support for all Biomed Services business systems including nationally supported and field applications.  Responsible for developing, monitoring and executing a comprehensive Biomedical IT strategic plan in alignment with the business needs and IT policies and procedures.   Collaborates cross-functionally with senior and executive leaders in other parts of the organization and lines of services (Finance, Biomedical IT, Info Security, Enterprise Data and Supply Management) in executing and achieving key business goals and strategies that have Biomed implications.  Facilitate the design of efficient and effective business system solutions that reflect process integration, consistent end-to-end data management and scalability.  

This position will be responsible for the overall product management and utilization of Biomed business unit systems and applications. This role will work collaboratively with Biomedical Senior Leadership team and key process owners to identify opportunities for system and process innovation, integration and system and process optimization. Serve as an advocate and liaison for the field to ensure clarity between Biomedical IT systems support and Biomed applications support to meet mission requirements.   

This individual also helps lead the Biomedical Services IT Committee which serves as a vehicle to obtain and share information about costs, budgets and performance toward the Biomedical Services IT vision. The VP job is a senior member of the executive team and reports to the President of Biomedical Services.  May also represent the Biomedical Service President at key meetings with other senior executives. 

About BSI: 

The Business Systems Integration (BSI) team brings together all the Biomedical systems applications product management under one unit.  BSI is responsible for identifying best-in-class solutions that meet business requirements and optimizing end-to-end processes. Partnering with Biomedical Information Technology and the Biomedical Business Units, BSI focuses on the following: 

•    System strategy planning and creating a product roadmap for all Biomedical systems 

•    Ensuring the solutions meet the needs of the Business by focusing on continuous improvement and identifying next generation solutions while ensuring quality and service delivery of our blood products. 

•    Product coordination of agile software development lifecycles. 

•    Product assistance with designing, development and deployment of reporting solutions to business operations 

BSI consists of roughly 100 systems across multiple value streams focused on all stages of the blood donation process, from donor to recipient. These business systems (SaaS, COTS, regulated, not regulated, Salesforce, home grown, etc.) are always working towards continuous development, innovation, improvement, and problem solving and are critical in helping the American Red Cross provide 60% of the nation’s blood supply.  

Will manage a department annual expense budget of ~$12M and lead a total team of 73 employees with 6 direct reports.  The Team is predominately comprised of Platform Directors, Requirements and Business Systems Analysts, Test Engineers and Application Support personnel and in transition to a product-centric agile model utilizing the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).  Additionally, will plan and manage the IT Portfolio budget (~$8-9M annually) in conjunction with the VP of Biomedical IT. 

The work location for this exciting opportunity is virtual. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home and can be located anywhere in the United States with a preference to work East Coast hours. 

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):

•    Business application ownership of Biomedical IT systems and field applications across all Biomedical Services. 

•    Design, develop and execute strategic roadmap for Biomedical IT systems and applications. Responsible for the overall Business systems product roadmaps and modernization of systems with IT including full life-cycle planning and integration across different lines of service.  Ensures consistent end-to-end data management and scalability to meet mission requirements. 

•    As a Lean-Agile executive leader, effectively lead corporate staff, external consultants and vendors to execute product roadmaps and initiatives in alignment with Biomedical IT roadmap and organizational goals. 

•    Responsible for leading and managing Biomedical systems and applications to fully maximize opportunities for process alignment, integration, data analytics and reporting. 

•    Monitor and ensure all Biomedical systems and processes remain current and can effectively and efficiently meet mission service delivery.  Partner with cross-functional leaders to prioritize system innovation, process improvement, and configuration changes 

•    Establish relationships with external (consultants and vendors) and internal stakeholders (IT, Finance) and other senior executives from different lines of service, to meet IT deliverables and any key milestones.  Provide support and strategic guidance as required.   

•    Collaborate with internal stakeholders on the long-term business and technology needs and the development of business objectives to optimize the interaction with Biomedical IT Centers of Excellence. 

•    Monitor and ensure Biomedical Services systems and applications remain current and relevant to mission delivery needs by minimizing downtime and driving continued improvement through release management and software modernization efforts.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):

Education: Master's degree in Engineering, IT or Business required. 

Experience: Minimum 15 years of related IT experience with large, complex organizations 

Management Experience: 10 years of progressive management/leadership experience. 

Proven experience in transforming and managing team effectiveness by adoption and application of Agile methodology with SAFe preferred. 

Proven success in delivering complex IT-intensive, business improvement/systems integration initiatives on budget ($25M+). 

Leadership & Management Competencies:  

•    Ability to lead, motivate and develop leadership teams through the principles and practices of Lean-Agile leadership.  

•    Ability to work on a diverse team of Executives, building effective relationships and working persuasively with senior leaders. 

•    Works well under pressure and can lead or respond effectively to multiple changing priorities and environments.  

•    Ability to make decisions that produce optimal results by applying technical knowledge, analyzing problems, and calculating risks. 

Ability to travel domestically (when appropriate and required) 20-25%  

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (preferred qualifications):  •    Extensive experience in strategic evaluation and execution of large-scale technology related. 

•    Experience in highly regulated industry(ies), or health care.  

•    Experience in a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environment.

•    Experience in the blood collections/manufacturing industry a plus. 

•    A strategic and technical mind with a humanitarian heart

Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

PAY INFORMATION: The starting annual salary range for this position is $275K - $325K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.
