Position Summary: The primary location of this position is the main WCU Cullowhee, NC campus. The Department of English Studies at Western Carolina University is seeking a candidate for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position (PhD in hand by start date) to direct the Latina/o Studies Minor and to teach U.S. Latina/o literature and/or literature from Latin America in translation. The literature courses will be developed by the candidate and will range from general Liberal Studies to graduate courses. Anticipated start date is August 2025. The Director will administer the Minor (which has its own budget) and teach a 2/2 load. Duties include recruiting and advising students, coordinating the program, developing internship opportunities, working with the advisory board, community outreach, and organizing funded programming. Spanish language skills are desirable in order to work with community partners and local engagement initiatives. Approved as a stand-alone minor in fall 2020, WCUs interdisciplinary Latina/o Studies Minor not only provides WCUs student body with a meaningful curriculum across different academic disciplines, but also highlights the collaborative ethos of WCU faculty and staff. This program provides high quality academic and co-curricular programming for the campus, and it has a positive and direct impact on the institutions ability to recruit and retain a growing Latina/o student population.
