Position Title: Assistant Director of Orientation and New Student Programs School/Division: Office of Student Leadership and Engagement Full Time/Part Time: Full-Time Description: Reporting to the Director of Orientation and Campus Visit Experience, the Assistant Director of Orientation and New Student Programs plays a vital role in enhancing the student transition experience by leading the recruitment, training, and supervision of orientation staff. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of New Student Orientation to organize and execute key orientation programs, including summer and winter orientation for undergraduate students, welcome week activities, and parent and family orientation. This position requires a dynamic leader who stays up to date on best practices and national trends in orientation and transition programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Recruits, trains, and supervises a team of undergraduate orientation leaders who assist with summer and winter orientations, welcome week, and other related activities. Recruits, trains, and supervises four graduate interns who will assist in program management, planning, and logistics. Develops and implements comprehensive training programs for orientation staff to ensure they are prepared to provide excellent service to new students and their families. Collaborates with the Director of New Student Orientation to plan, develop, and execute summer and winter orientation programs for undergraduate students. Assists in organizing and implementing Welcome Week programs designed to help new undergraduate students acclimate to university life. Coordinates parent and family orientation, ensuring that parents and families are informed and engaged in their student's transition to the university. Stays current with best practices, trends, and research in orientation, transition, and retention programming to continually improve the university's programs. Implements data-driven strategies and assessments to enhance the effectiveness of orientation and new student transition programs. Collaborates with campus partners, including academic affairs, student affairs, and other departments, to create a cohesive orientation experience. Manages daily office operations related to orientation programs, ensuring the efficiency of processes and communication. Assists in the development and management of the orientation budget, including tracking expenditures related to staff training, program materials, and events. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field required. Minimum of 3 years of experience in orientation, student affairs, or related areas. Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs. Demonstrated experience and expertise working with diverse, undeserved and/or underrepresented student populations. Availability to work evenings and weekends during peak orientation periods in the summer. Some travel may be required for professional development and recruitment events. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in training and supervising staff preferred. Experience managing large-scale events and programs in a university setting. Familiarity with student information systems and orientation software. Proven track record of successfully recruiting, training, and supervising staff. Experience and proficiency in Ellucian Banner.
