Underwrites commercial credit exposure for the most complex and largest credit relationships for Truist Wealth. Oversees sound portfolio management activities on assigned loan portfolio and identifies emerging credit problems and industry trends. Provides technical assistance and coaching to junior Credit Portfolio Managers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Underwriting:
- Manage end-to-end credit delivery process for the most complex deals and largest credit relationships for Truist Wealth clients, in partnership with cross-functional partners such as internal legal and/or outside counsel, loan fulfillment, and loan servicing, in order to meet client expectations.
- Provide independent, in-depth analysis of financial statements, projections, business plans, tax returns, borrowing base statements, appraisals, loan collateral and other diligence items; identifies and mitigates key risks; proposes alternative loan structures where appropriate.
- Negotiate legal documents; involved in the closing process for portfolio loan transactions.
- Continuously act with a sense of urgency; actively communicate throughout the process with the advisor team, and in some cases directly with the client, in order to manage expectations.
- Engage with clients and prospects to understand financial profile and discuss credit opportunities.
- Is accountable for the risk evaluation and associated regulatory compliance requirements.
Portfolio Management:
- Accountable for and manages assigned portfolio by monitoring performance and trends, proactively defining client credit solutions, identifying issues and following through for remediation.
- Coordinate credit and loan portfolio administration activities such as loan renewals and modifications, completion of periodic (at least annual) credit reviews, frequent review of financial statements and related internal risk ratings, management of covenant compliance and ongoing collateral monitoring.
- Is expected to be anticipatory, forward focused, independent, transparent and collaborative in identification, communication, and all aspects of management of risk.
- Have a strong understanding of industry and regulatory trends, including knowledge of competitors and loan market dynamics. Continuously monitor industry and regulatory trends for issues that could impact borrowers within loan portfolio.
Subject Matter Expertise:
- Partner closely with peers to ensure effective delivery of complex financing solutions to clients through industry specific lens; responsible for maintaining extensive level of knowledge banking solutions, in addition to market trends and business drivers.
- Possesses a mastery of client and industry expertise, understand the impact of industry and competitive dynamics and macroeconomic events on the performance and creditworthiness of clients and prospects; proactively shares information across the PM organization.
Deal Team Management:
Leadership:
- Develop an independent point of view and provide recommendations to appropriate decision makers.
- Mentor junior talent as well as LOB partners as appropriate; assist in training less experienced PM teammates.
- Lead other PM teammates, including PM support and Loan Origination Specialists, to most effectively and efficiently process loan transactions and portfolio management activities.
- Participate in activities outside of day-to-day portfolio responsibilities that benefit the PM platform as a whole.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, accounting, business or related field and at least 7+ years of related training and experience in wealth and/or large commercial credit analysis.
- Mastery level proficiency with MS Office Desktop applications.
- Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills; solid written/verbal communication.
- Strong credit skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize workflow and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Sound decision-making skills and ability to balance business development and risk mitigation.
- Keen negotiation and persuasion skills for external interactions with clients/prospects and internally with Relationship Management partners and Credit Risk Management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of formal bank commercial credit training program or equivalent experience; or MBA in Accounting or Finance or in related field; or an equivalent combination of educational and experience or other related advanced degree
- Has successfully held similar role with commercial financial institution or like experience.
- Industry or sub-sector expertise.
- Mastery of Truist Bank operating systems inclusive of AFS Vision and other Commercial applications (i.e. MCL, salesforce.com, nCino)
