The Chevron ENGINE IT department contains platform teams who are members of the four Petro technical digital platforms and IT Foundation Platform including Surface, Subsurface, Wells (Drilling), and Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), and IT Foundation Digital (ITFP). These teams operate in a matrix environment with priorities determined by global Product Owners and Product Managers.

About the position:

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is the collection of sensors and instruments connected through the internet for industrial applications. The role includes the responsiblility for IIoT engineering design and execution of a solution in standard facilities, offices and for numerous small capital operations support projects and Operations/Base Business general support. The role expects strong cross-functional collaboration, interfacing with device vendors for device specifications, working with BU and central teams on networking and data flow, and ensuring network security within cybersecurity guardrails. The position will also partner with Operations to assist in troubleshooting. Specifically this position is expected to have strong Instrumentation Engineering experience in Industrial Process areas as they will work between the central IIoT teams and the International Business Units in supporting IIoT deployments.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develops surface facility IIoT Instrumentation designs and construction work packages and is responsible for ensuring IIoT system design, installation, start up and commissioning are conducted in a safe and efficient manner
  • Serve as BU Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Local Technical Authority for IIoT and provides engineering expertise and supports Facilities Engineering and Operations teams; Provide guidance on networking or RF optimization for sensor installation and troubleshooting
  • Develops IIoT deliverables, works with engineering contractors to ensure all vendor supplied equipment packages meet the applicable specifications and company standards
  • Participates and contributes in safety and constructability reviews
  • Knowledge of how IIoT devices work alongside electrical, instrumentation, controls and communication systems
  • IIoT SME for the Process Harzard Analysis (PHA) for new deployments and revalidation of PHA's either as advisor or as attendee
  • Coordinates Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) or Site Acceptance Test (SAT) for IIoT systems for capital projects
  • Responsible for approving design and detailed engineering packages for IIoT retrofit into existing facilities
  • Develop strategic business unit level construction and commissioning guidelines and documentation
Required qualifications:
  • Electrical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech.) degree from a deemed/recognized (AICTE) university preferred, other engineering degrees are acceptable
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in cloud engineering in cloud IIoT solutions, services, and or infrastructure
  • Strong communication skills. Ability to be well-organized, clear and concise in conversations and written communications
  • Self-driven, can work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and quickly adjust in a rapidly changing environment
  • Team player who exhibits effective interpersonal skills with a collaborative style
  • English language (Advanced)
  • Experience with LoRaWAN eco-system a plus, including Things Networks implementation and deployment support
  • Understanding of/experience with Ignition, SparkPlug B, MQTT, MSFT IIoT
  • Experience with wired and wireless sensor field implementation and Oil & Gas requirements (operating temperature, hazardous area classification, power requirements, etc.)
  • Understanding of ML/AI/GenAI capabilities applied to IIoT solutions
