Associate/Professor of Law and Public Policy and Director Primary Purpose and Essential Functions: The University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (McGeorge), an ABA- accredited law school in Sacramento, California, is seeking applicants for the position of Associate/Professor of Law and Public Policy and Director of McGeorge Public Policy Programs ('Director'). The Director enjoys faculty status with a rank of assistant, associate, or full professor commensurate with experience. The position, at all ranks, includes voting rights, faculty governance responsibilities, and sabbatical opportunities. Although not a tenure-track position, it is designed to lead to a long-term contract that, if successfully completed, culminates in an indefinite contract with no term limits and with job security similar to a tenured position. The Director is responsible for running the Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree programs. This faculty position will be appointed jointly to teach in the JD and Public Policy programs, will be expected to teach in the law-related competencies in the MPA/MPP curriculum and teach one (1) or more JD courses in the JD Program. Qualified candidates may also be able to teach an elective law course that serves J.D., MSL, MPA, and MPP students. The Public Policy program is Hybrid with a mix of in-person courses taught on Pacific's Sacramento campus in the evening and on weekends as well as some fully online and hybrid courses. Other responsibilities include advising students on academic and career development; service to support the program such as participation in orientation and recruitment events; and other professional development commensurate with the role. Students in the MPA and MPP programs are very diverse, and most are pursuing careers in public service in the Sacramento region or other areas of California. Thus, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in public service. Minimum Qualifications: A Juris-Doctor (J.D.) degree. Two (2) years of professional experience in public administration or public policy, including work experience with a public agency, consultancy, government law jobs with a policy focus (such as serving in the chambers of a state legislator or in a government agency) or non-profit working in a public service area. A membership in a state bar association. Preferred Qualifications: Graduate teaching experience in law, public administration, public policy, or related area. Research and/or consulting experience on California public policy issues and engagement with California public agencies. Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in education and public service settings. Effective communication skills. Professional composure and demeanor at all times. Ability to promote the vision, mission, and core values of McGeorge School of Law. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
