Job Summary Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) seeks an On-Call Caterer/Driver to join the RISD Caters group. This is an exciting opportunity to supplement your income with flexible shift work, or develop your experience in events and catering, The On-Call Caterer/Driver organizes and transports the equipment, supplies, small wares, linens, condiments and other accessory items required for catered events on- and off-campus. Incumbents are responsible for set-up and visual presentation at assigned events, as well as operating a light duty motor vehicle in transporting of items needed for catered functions. Some basic food preparation may also be required. Essential Functions: Expedite, load, transport, unload and set up food, various small wares and supplies for catered functions in a courteous and professional manner. Coordinate delivery and set-up with sensitivity to time management and advance planning, assuring that all deliveries meet scheduling requests and in time to achieve careful visual presentation. Ensure that buffet items are displayed with sensitivity to the visual presentation required by a discerning clientele. Anticipate unforeseen circumstances and ensure that items are available to address unexpected needs for on- and off-campus events. Return to break down and close out all functions at specified times as assigned. Perform clerical duties in a timely manner as required. Perform basic food preparation, assist in the preparation of complex menu items, and assist with serving food items as needed and in compliance with safety and HAACP standards. Remain up to date on safety and HAACP standards. Either directly or in partnership with members of the Catering department, participate in inventory processes of catering food items and supplies, including paper and plastic ware, beverages, and beer, wine and spirits. Help ensure that storage areas and freezers in proper order and sanitary condition. Ensure the proper use and cleanliness (inside and out) of catering motor vehicles, which includes fueling and updating/maintaining a mileage log sheet. Report repairs needed to the Catering Manager. Makes daily deliveries for catering. Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience: Must hold a valid driver's license. Excellent interpersonal skills and a keen attention to detail and visual presentation are required. Must be able to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students and a discerning external clientele. Commitment to centering inclusivity, diversity and equity in executing key responsibilities. High school diploma Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of previous experience in a fast-paced food service environment, or an equivalent combination of experience and education is required. Union: No Work Schedule: This position is on-call and therefore schedule will vary.
