What You Will Do


Join the Richard P. Feynman Center for Innovation (FCI) to effectively bridge the gap between business needs and operational execution for maximum impact of technology transfer activities at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. This position is responsible for integrating operations of technology transfer activities to support strategic and operational objectives, ensure quality controls, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and promote customer service in support of U.S. national security missions.

FCI is seeking a motivated and resourceful individual with a blend of strategic thinking, project management, and technical proficiency to drive operational excellence. In this role, you will guide a team of IT systems, project management and business intelligence professionals to execute various functions related to systems & tools, data management and analysis, decision support, and contract compliance, aligning and tracking deliverables within Prime Contract requirements, and ensuring records are kept and deposed in alignment with those requirements. This includes implementing new systems and tools, overseeing database migration and modernization strategies, and ensuring comprehensive documentation of database configurations and procedures. The Business Engineering Team collaborates across FCI to ensure sound business operations and strategies. You will align business goals with operational processes, leveraging knowledge of market trends and the competitive landscape to drive partnerships and commercialization. What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:


Technical Knowledge


  • Systems & Tools: Expertise in integrating various systems and tools to create a cohesive and streamlined workflow including implementing new systems and tools to enhance operational efficiency, managing and maintaining legacy database systems and understanding of database migration and modernization strategies. Ability to maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations and procedures with an analytical mindset to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in data. Demonstrated ability in optimizing workflows, interfaces, and automation to improve productivity.

  • Data Management & Analysis: Proficient in data analysis and interpretation to support business decisions; producing high-quality, accurate data for reporting on deliverables and metrics while adhering to defined data standards and timelines. Highly skilled in developing and implementing dashboards and performance measures to monitor partnerships and outcomes. Experienced in analyzing data trends, results, and progress towards data-driven results, and identifying areas for improvement.

  • Contract Compliance and Records Management: Ability to develop, implement and monitor compliance programs (cradle-to-grave) to execute on regulatory requirements, policies and compliance standards. Expertise in managing contracts and ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations. This role requires a demonstrated understanding of contract lifecycle management principles and of risk management and mitigation strategies related to contracts including negotiating and understanding of legal implications.

  • Business Intelligence: Ability to identify and develop market research capabilities and provide quality research requests, reports, queries, dashboards, etc. in a timely manner. Adept in leveraging data for strategic decision-making and impact assessment using business intelligence tools. Creative problem-solver, able to address business challenges using data-driven approaches and proficient in establishing and maintaining a knowledge base for artifacts, reports and queries, implementing, maintaining and utilizing industry tools for market understanding.

Communication Skills
Strong customer focus, able to understand customer needs and expectations, develop and maintain positive customer relationships, collect and analyze customer feedback to improve services. Experience brokering with customers to determine what must be accomplished using established timeframes while adhering to Laboratory requirements. Ability to interact effectively and respectfully with all levels of personnel, including management, legal counsel, internal and external stakeholders. Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills to articulate concepts using a diverse range of technical and business acumen. Ability to consistently develop, establish, and sustain rapport to foster positive relationships to enhance collaboration and cross-functional effectiveness and ensure agile teaming.

Leadership and Teamwork

Has exercised leadership in creating a vision and developed strategic and tactical plans to execute an assigned portfolio consisting of highly complex projects impacting multiple organizations. Experience supervising, guiding, mentoring, and developing professional-level personnel and cultivating a collaborative and innovative team culture to drive successful outcomes. Ability to lead using a team-oriented approach, willing to take initiative, self-start, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously to drive projects to completion, prioritizing strategic actions to maximize resource and time constraints. Ability to build trust, gain consensus, and resolve conflicts.

Program/Project Management
Successfully managed projects from inception to completion, coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery. Demonstrated use of project management tools and methodologies to track progress, mitigate risks, and achieve project objectives. Experience in applying critical thinking to solve complex problems. Expert-level knowledge in all aspects of program management including defining work scope, schedules, cost/benefit, priorities, performance milestones and risk assessment. Ability to adapt to changing business environments and priorities with ease. Willingness to learn new skills and technologies, demonstrating resilience in handling uncertainty.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a business, computer science or systems engineering discipline from an accredited institution, and 12 years of directly related project/program management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level an advanced degree may be expected.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of U.S. Federal, DOE, national laboratory, and university technology transfer practices, legislation, statutes, and regulations.

  • Active DOE Q Clearance, or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of information technology (IT) or information security (InfoSec) in one or more of the following: hardware, software, network infrastructure, telecommunications.

  • Knowledge of project management methods, methodologies, and frameworks such as Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Lean, Six Sigma, and Lean Six Sigma.

  • Knowledge of IT environments and application development methodologies.

  • Experience in using industry standard business intelligence tools.

  • Familiarity with contract management software.

Work Location: Hybrid - Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Hybrid is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice. The work location for this position is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, October 31st. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
