Position Summary Geffen Academy at UCLA's School counselor reports to the Principal Learning Specialist and works within the Support Student department to provide social, emotional, and behavioral guidance to the school's students. The school counselor demonstrates a deep understanding of common developmental issues and uses that knowledge to help students realize their individual success during their time at Geffen Academy. Specifically, in coordination with the Dean of Students team, School Nurse and the Learning Specialist team, the Student Counselor will develop counseling resources and interventions for the student population as needed. The School Counselor will work with students to enhance their ability to effectively work through personal, social, academic, and career concerns affecting their well-being while at school. Additionally, the Student Counselor will create resources for school educators and staff to provide further support as advocates for students' well-being. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications 3-5 years' of experience working with middle and high school students in an independent school or general professional setting (Required) Strong communication and customer service skills with an emphasis on patience and professionalism. (Required) Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive. (Required) Ability to build and strengthen positive relationships among students, parents, and educators. (Required) Work independently and know how to use appropriate resources. (Required) Possess a high degree of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality and initiative; A pro-active individual that will be able to respond quickly and positively to all manners of situations with poise and quiet efficiency. (Required) Quick study/proactive/willingness to ask questions and push initiatives forward. (Required) Experience working with data and generating database reports, and strong proficiency with Google Docs and Excel. (Required) Maintain confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential. (Required) Demonstrate excellent writing, oral communication and presentation skills. (Required) Be well versed and implement requirements of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). (Required) Follow Geffen Academy and UCLA policies, procedures, school handbooks' requirements and protocols (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Master's Degree in Counseling/Guidance, Education, or Social Work or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
