Collins Aerospace is looking for a Competitive Excellence Manager for Aerostructures Future Platforms who provides vision, proactive leadership, and drive to competitively position Aerostructures Engineering processes.  This role will identify and develop new methodologies and ways of working internally and externally to enhance overall product development lifecycle.   The team will collaborate with Aerostructures Program Execution Excellence (APEX) and Engineering Product and Functional Excellence teams.

  • The position is working onsite at our Chula Vista CA facility

The Challenge

As the leader of the Competitive Excellence team, you will be responsible for orchestrating a complex array of efforts aimed at improving efficiency, reducing costs, and shortening development cycles. What You Will Do

  • Champion Process Improvement: Lead efforts to design, implement, and transform processes that reduce the product development lifecycle and lower costs, all while maintaining the highest standards of quality and performance.
  • Drive Cost Efficiency: Oversee initiatives such as Design for Cost, ensuring that our products are not only cutting-edge but also cost-effective.
  • Ensure Consistency: Maintain Estimation EAC consistency across projects, ensuring that our financial projections are accurate and reliable.
  • Innovate for the Future: Lead the charge in developing future processes, tools, and investments that will drive engineering efficiency and deliver long-term benefits.
  • Strategize Supplier Relationships: Identify and engage future suppliers who can meet our stringent quality and certification requirements, ensuring that we are always ahead of the curve.
  • Guide Technical Excellence: Oversee the design, stress validation, qualification, certification, and project management efforts, ensuring that every aspect of our products meets the highest standards.
  • Analyze and Optimize: Utilize business analytics to identify opportunities for improvement, making data-driven decisions that enhance our competitive position.
  • Build and Lead a High-Performing Team: Structure and lead a team that is focused, motivated, and aligned with our mission of competitive excellence.
  • Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit

What You Must Have

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here:  https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62 
  • Process transformation experience (create and evaluate business cases)
  • Experience managing a team of engineering professionals
  • Engineering principles & theories experience
  • Experience with structures design/stress
  • Project Management experience
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement (CI) tools and methodologies

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 158,000 USD - 316,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
