Where You Will Work   

In operation since 2007, Safford operations is a zero-discharge facility and one of the most sustainable mines in the United States. The operation’s commitment to utilizing advanced technologies and sustainable practices strongly emphasizes safety and environmental stewardship. Located in southeastern Arizona, close to more than 4 million acres of national forest, employees and their families can connect with the great outdoors while fishing, rafting, hiking and more. Several educational institutions also are nearby, including a Northern Arizona University satellite campus, Eastern Arizona College, and the Gila Institute for Technology.   



Description



Under general supervision plans, oversees and/or performs detailed field surveys in support of site operations.

 


  • Plans, organizes and evaluates surveying at assigned site

  • Performs complex site surveys and oversees the activities of field survey crews in performing site surveys

  • Maintains accurate notes, records and sketches to describe and certify work performed

  • Updates conventional and electronic (GIS) files

  • Researches previous survey evidence, maps, physical evidence and other records

  • Determines methods and procedures for conducting assigned surveys

  • Reviews and recommends new or enhanced surveying equipment or protocols

  • Prepares and presents findings to engineering and operational personnel

  • Performs other duties as required





Qualifications



Minimum Qualifications



  • Advanced training or education in surveying, mapping or a related field

  • Three (3) years of surveying experience relevant to assignment

  • Knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex land surveys, including GIS/GPS mapping techniques

  • Knowledge of and skilled in the use of a variety of specialized equipment, tools and apparatus used in performing surveys (e.g. stadia rods, lasers, GIS/GPS units)

  • Knowledge of surveying mathematics, field procedures, and operations

  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions

  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards


 


Preferred Qualifications


  • High School diploma or GED

 


Criteria/Conditions


  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

  • Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see

  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday

  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required




What We Offer You  

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $30.00 - $41.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
