STORE MERCHANDISER (NEAT) (RPT/SOFTLINE LABOR HOURLY) - Military Veterans
at Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM)
Job Summary: Responsible for the processing and placement of soft line hardline merchandise by ensuring all supporting and related materials floor signage ad-set i.e. mark-downs promo sales props etc. are set-up and displayed in accordance with prescribed planograms for specified departments within a NEX Activity. Where applicable and necessary finesses sorts folds dismantle assemble store displays products and goods on the sales floor according to written and or verbal specifications to ensure products and merchandise are displayed in an appealing manner. Ensure all assigned work is completed in a timely manner.
Duties and Responsibilities: Works closely with management and department heads to decide how goods should be displayed to maximize interest in sales while maintaining store standards.
- Maintains department appearance when stocking merchandise to ensure displays and racks remain in good detail order in accordance with size color price and correct signage.
- Utilizes knowledge regarding merchandise selection including proper set-up use care characteristics of various product price points to ensure compliance with merchandising standards. Examine and verify quantity availability and pricing of merchandise prior to set-up.
- Ensures assigned areas are fully stocked to merchandise standards and merchandise is neatly arranged. Communicates with supervisor store manager etc. regarding stock additions deletions fast and slow selling merchandise customer preferences needs problems etc. Participates in department meetings and actively seeks to exchange ideas regarding improvement in merchandise quantities processes and services customer service. Proposes new ideas regarding product merchandise displays improvement to job performance duties and as well as achievement of store department sales goals etc.
- Ensures merchandise new receipts hit the floor on a daily basis. Ensures back stock is only duplicates of what is on the floor already. - Unpacks stages and moves merchandise as assigned. Assists in creating store displays and in performing periodic inventories by counting stock items remaining on shelves and in keeping storage and sales area clean and orderly.
- May be required to perform such other duties as operating price tag machine unloading boxes and packages and pulling merchandise from stock or stock shelves setting up shelves according to planogram specifications.
- Conducts cross-merchandising by displaying products along with other related products and merchandise in order to improve the convenience and shopping experience for customers i.e. includes appropriate batteries alongside the merchandise requiring batteries in an effort to maximize sales and increase sales volume.
- Ensure proper protocol is followed regarding products merchandise returned to vendors or warehouse and where applicable completes necessary paperwork to ensure proper reimbursement.
- May assist customers as required. Sells general merchandise to customers exercising professional selling techniques and works as part of a sales team to provide service which anticipates and exceeds customer expectations.
- Becomes knowledgeable regarding merchandise selected including proper set-up use care characteristics of various product price points warranty coverage etc. communicates product-related information to customers in a knowledgeably and legible manner.
- Maintains a high level of awareness in assigned areas and offers excellent customer service to all patrons internal and external in order to deter theft.
- Completes paperwork associated with merchandise inventory movement price adjustments customer returns cash register operation etc. accurately and completely.
- Is required to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance as it relates to job duties including but not limited to assisting customers lifting merchandise assisting with stocking sales area as necessary etc. Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor carrying out assignments with little review during progress of work.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
Total of 1 year experience consisting of the following
GENERAL EXPERIENCE 6 months responsible experience in clerical office or retail sales store work of any kind in which the applicant has demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.
AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE 6 months progressively responsible experience in retail store merchandising and retail sales store work performing the kind of duties which constitute the principal work of the position to be filled. Possesses knowledge and understanding of Retailing standards and methods.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE Graduation from a full 4 year or senior high school or possession of a General Education Development High School Equivalency Certificate GED may be substituted for the experience requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Regularly lifts and transports moderately heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

As such, the command is self-supporting with 70 percent of its profits given to Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs and the remaining 30 percent reinvested in NEX buildings and equipment.
