Maintenance Electrician - Military Veterans

Position Overview:
The Maintenance Electrician union represented position. The Maintenance Electrician position is responsible for the installation, testing and maintenance of the electrical and fire alarm systems on the College campus, as well as the electrical distribution and transmission equipment in the utility tunnels and electrical vaults. The Maintenance Electrician also coordinates the work of outside electrical contractors working for the College as required. This position requires continuous education to further educate and support this position.
Union Salary and Benefits:
The full-scale wage for the Maintenance Electrician position is $45.00 per. New employees will be hired with a one-year training period. At the start of the training period, wages are reduced by $2.00 per hour from the base classification rates. Employees will receive a $1.00 per hour increase after six months, and another $1.00 per hour increase after twelve months.

Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
- Maintain all electrical systems on the College campus. Including:
- 13.8kv switchgear and main distribution system
- Emergency generation systems
- Commercial building switchgear and distribution systems
- Residential style buildings.
- Primary responsibility for the Fire Alarm panels and systems in the campus buildings, including residential buildings.
- Assist with low voltage card access and security systems as needed.
- Coordinate the work load using a work order management system.
Education/Experience/Skills:
Required:
- Journeyman or Master Minnesota electrical license
- Minimum 2 years documented relevant electrical experience with:
- Residential installation and repair
- Commercial electrical system maintenance and repair including motor controls.
- Low voltage wiring and systems
- Medium voltage distribution systems, including 13.8kv distribution.
- A proven ability to read and understand electrical prints.
- An ability to read and create one-line drawings for electrical systems and switching.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical systems.
- Computer experience in email, word processor and spreadsheet documents.
- Able to work independently; self-starter with ability to maintain detailed records.
- A positive, cooperative service-oriented attitude.
- A valid Minnesota driver's license with a good record (subject to verification).
- Neat and safe work habits.
- Must pass a background check.
Preferred:
- An electrical degree from a secondary school.
- Experience with power generation.
- A good understanding of other trades and ability to work with them
- Experience working with a multi-building campus setting
Physical Requirements:
- Must pass pre-employment physical
- Requires the physical ability to occasionally lift and carry 60 lbs. tools and equipment.
- Ability to climb step ladders, extension ladders, ship ladders, fixed ladders and 120 steps carrying 25 lbs.
- Will work on roof tops and be required to work at elevations with a mechanical lift or ladder.
- The ability to stand and walk up to 3 hrs. at a time.
- Must be able to grasp small tools and parts for installation.
- Occasionally crawl through a 22" opening and crawl up to 25'.
- Occasionally use force up to 80 lbs.
Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
