Within the Department of Cancer Immunology and Virology, the Research Operations Assistant will be required to perform various laboratory, facility, and event support services. Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute brings together world-renowned clinicians, innovative researchers, and, dedicated professionals, allies in the common mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS, and related diseases. Collect and package laboratory waste. Clean, sterilize, and maintain stocks of glassware and plasticware. Sterilize and deliver laboratory materials prepared by the research staff. Monitor and maintain adequate supply of liquid nitrogen to cryogenic freezer systems. Monitor and maintain supplies for operations related tasks and for use by the research staff, for example, biohazardous waste packaging materials, gloves, sterilized reagent water and gloves. Clean and decontaminate equipment and furniture for routine maintenance or in preparation for disposal. Assist with the defrosting of cold storage devices. Monitor and maintain printers and multifunction copiers and their supplies. Monitor and perform certain upkeep tasks in conference rooms, offices and labs. Set up conference rooms for weekly seminars and special events. Submit online work orders to request assistance from Dana-Farber support departments. May assist with matters related to purchasing, shipping and receiving. Perform other duties as assigned. High school diploma or GED required. Basic computer skills. Good English language reading and speaking skills. Ability to communicate effectively and timely. Have attention to detail, be observant and be willing to learn. Ability to take initiative and suggest workable solutions. Ability to be responsive to situations as they arise. Ability to stand and move around for long periods, move items repeatedly by hand, bend down and bend over. Ability to work in laboratory environments and comply with applicable safety requirements. Ability to operate steam sterilizers and automated laboratory glassware washers. Ability to handle heavy items including the rolling of liquid nitrogen cylinders. Familiarity with shipping and receiving processes. Ability to work beyond or be contacted after regular hours as needed.
