HII Unmanned Systems is seeking an experienced engineering project manager with cost controller focus to come join our team as an Engineering Project Manager! The project manager is responsible for planning, tracking, analysis and reporting of performance on projects of varying contract type, size, complexity and level of risk. You will be a key member of the engineering program team and works with the Engineering leadership to help define the project's goals and objectives; and recommends actions to improve progress and performance. As our Engineering Project Manager you will have significant interface with our Customer Program/Project Managers, senior technical staff, as well as other functional organizations including contracts, finance, and procurement, as well as cross functional engineering team working on the design, development, test, delivery, and support of HII Unmanned Systems product lines. In this role you will
- Manage three key engineering projects .
- Work with engineering leadership and program management to ensure project performance is aligned with the program vision and meets all requirements, including budget and schedule.
- Proactively work with departments to ensure that appropriate staffing resources are assigned, put in place, and effectively utilized at the appropriate time.
- Act as a mentor to other engineering leaders.
- Strong organizational skills, able to handle multiple tasks at one time and meet deadlines.
- Must be analytical, possess strong communication and presentation skills and can work independently as well as a member of a team.
What you will be doing...
Functions as a technical expert who provides management, leadership in the design, development and delivery of technology-enabled applications, products and services within a technical environment. Participate in and provide input into the design, re-design and development of technology products and applications. Contribute to and often lead the specification and design phases of the development life cycle. Also manage the design and implementation of new development and enhancement efforts, and coordinate systems installation and software testing with other technologists. Responsible for the overall technical implementation of applications, and frequently interact with internal and external business contacts. Responsible for the technical integrity of projects while providing technical guidance to clients and department staff at the brand, program, and project levels. Functions as day-to-day lead on assigned projects and works with technical leadership to perform evaluations and feasibility reviews of creative concepts and technology solutions. Act as a point of technical escalation and resolution during the project lifecycle as it relates to technical decisions Determine and provide a necessary level of technical documentation during requirements gathering, based on technical services group standards and procedures and discussions with project staff, industry experience, and technical vendors. Assist the technical director with scoping, identification of project deliverables, and creation of project-specific documentation such as functional specifications, technical specifications, etc. Proactively work with producers to ensure that appropriate staffing resources are assigned, put in place, and effectively utilized at the appropriate time. Work with quality assurance resources to create test plans and ensure that issues are properly assigned, fixed, and regressed. Communicate daily regarding project status with appropriate team members. Provide technical consultancy to department staff and participate in business development efforts including proposals, development plans, and presentations, as directed.
What we are looking for..
- 8 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field (including Finance/Accounting); 6 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 12 years relevant progressive experience.
- Project Controller experience
- Program Management experience
- Experience with CostPoint, Cognos Reportingor Deltek Cobra
- Strength in Excel and MS Office suite.
- Ability to provide direction to subordinates including management level employees using established policies and precedents.
- Background with marine systems and robotics is a plus
- Experienced with providing project briefings to internal/external customers and company leadership.
- Experience with proposal development.
- Experience identifying program risks and developing mitigation plans.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience with government contracts preferred
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance. #LI-MH1
- Onsite role in our Pocasset, Mass office
