As part of the Global Oncology Products, Pipeline and Strategy team, you will report to the Head of New Product Planning and Business Development Search & Evaluation, Global Oncology


How you will contribute:


  • Serve as iDAS Business lead for Gastrointestinal (GI) and contribute to creating disease area strategies (DAS) to ensure Takeda maintains commercial leadership in these areas through pipeline planning and business development targeting. 


  • Provide an early and objective view of the unmet needs, target profile, early product opportunity profile, market potential, competitive landscape and commercial risks associated with pipeline assets in early development phases in alignment with governance and enterprise needs.   Coordinate pre-commercialization activities for these pipeline assets prior to handing them off to commercial teams.


  • Lead cross-functional global commercial teams to provide input into global product teams for pipeline assets; co-lead One Oncology iDAS teams to develop strategic and effective disease area strategies, including strategic updates, white space opportunity identification and other strategic issues as they arise


  • Work with Business Development (BD), R&D, global commercial and regional commercial oncology colleagues to define and evolve the disease areas of interest for the Oncology Business Unit (OBU)


  • Lead the assessment and quantification of business development opportunities for the OBU  and provide recommendations to the Oncology leadership team, ensuring decisions and plans are informed by the global market access landscape, competitive environment, unmet needs and customer/patient insights, including leading the commercial business subteam for BD opportunities for the creation of a business inputs into governance forums


Accountabilities:


  • Represent the Oncology Business Unit (OBU) as GI lead on early pipeline Global Program Teams (GPTs) and contribute the global commercial perspective to clinical development decisions within the GPT (including Clinical, GMA, Project Management, and Regulatory) on  key factors such as indications, endpoints, populations and trial comparator to ensure through analysis and understanding of the necessary clinical and regulatory threshold to ensure successful commercialization ,market differentiation, and alignment with DASs.


  • Co-lead GPT in identifying, developing and championing asset maximization strategies, and facilitate GPT decision-making through the communication of clear and unified global commercial strategy to optimize overall market value of each asset


  • Develop early brand plans for GI assets with global cross-functional input (Patient value and Access, Medical Affairs, HEOR, Competitive Intelligence), including a global commercial assessment of the market and asset opportunity that is used to facilitate clinical development planning, brand strategy development, patient insights, value proposition, financial valuation, and tactical planning/budgeting


  • Conduct market analyses to shape optimized target product profiles, early product opportunity profiles, product positioning, and target product claims


  • Lead all regional pipeline communication and activities for GI assets


  • Advise on commercial assessments of potential BD and M&A opportunities, acting as the lead for the GI disease area strategy, including preparation for TOMM, PRC and other governance forums


  • Provide forecasts for GI assets and the potential for the franchise


  • Stay abreast of oncology treatment landscape and key competitors in order to adapt marketing strategies accordingly to ensure success of GI assets


  • Provide disease area leadership in BD S&E triage meetings, and support BD opportunity identification, representing the commercial function in Due Diligence activities


  • Lead and facilitate the work of cross-functional teams, including global and regional functions, to conduct commercial opportunity assessments tailored to stage of development and size of transactions.  Assessments include, but are not limited to, sizing the market potential, prioritizing business opportunities, building competitive landscapes, creating target opportunity profiles, market research and forecasting


  • Partner closely with GOPPS Business Insights and Analytics functions to facilitate robustness of assessment, including comprehensive assessment of external environment, market research, and forecasting


  • Develop discussion guides and conduct interviews with oncology experts and KOLs to understand disease space and commercial potential of prioritized opportunities


  • Provide commercial input and business support on other assets and programs as assigned


  • Stay abreast of oncology treatment landscape and key competitors in order to adapt marketing strategies accordingly to ensure success of GI assets


  • Provide disease area leadership in BD S&E triage meetings, and support BD opportunity identification


  • Provide commercial input and business support on other assets and programs as assigned


  • Prepare materials for relevant governance forums including, but not limited to ODeST, PRC, and TOMM.


  • Other special assignments as assigned


Core Elements:

  • This position is responsible for leading pipeline commercial strategy for GI assets and ensuring a sound One Oncology iDAS is in place. As part of this charge, the iDAS Business Lead, GI works globally and cross-functionally (Regional Marketing, Market Research, Business Intelligence, BD, Alliance Management, Patient Value and Access, Medical Affairs etc.), to develop strategies and other critical business inputs that will provide the greatest returns to Takeda. The iDAS Business Lead, GI delivers  strategies, forecasts and commercial plans, aligned to the overall disease area strategy, for endorsement by Head of NPP, Oncology Leadership Team, Takeda Oncology Management Meeting (TOMM) and Portfolio Review Committee (PRC). In addition, the iDAS Business Lead is accountable for delivering the commercial and business assessments and associated deliverables for new BD opportunities, as assigned, including representing these are various forums including TOMM, PRC etc.

Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., business, chemistry, biology); Advanced Degree (MBA, PhD, PharmD) preferred


  • 10+ years pharmaceutical industry experience, oncology experience required


  • At least 7 years in commercial roles (brand marketing, sales, market research/analytics, new product planning, managed markets); global experience preferred


  • Significant commercial experience preferred in solid tumors


  • Experience defining disease area strategies or corporate strategy experience required


  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical R&D process required; prefer prior experience working with development teams


  • Significant experience leading cross-functional teams, including senior leaders, to accomplish shared goals


  • Demonstrated exceptional strategic thinking ability


  • Demonstrated ability to understand and translate clinical/scientific information

  • Pharmaceutical Industry Acumen – Ability to develop and implement business solutions based on trends, opportunities, needs and market direction within the pharmaceutical industry and health care environment.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$169,400.00 - $266,200.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 



U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
