Responsibilities

1. Assists in laying and grading of mains and services, installation of leak clamps and other Distribution fittings.

2. Operates pneumatic paving breakers, jackhammers, tampers and other tools.

3. Drives truck as required.

4. Helps keep trucks and other equipment clean and orderly.

5. Upon completion of training, operate backhoe and other earth moving equipment in conjunction with CNG Operations. Perform fueling, oiling and greasing of earth moving equipment.

6. Perform other related work as required.

7. Perform the above in accordance with safety practices of the company.

8. Must be Operator Qualified to fulfill the job Responsibilities and Requirements.

9. Acts as Inspector or Leak Detection Surveyor, as required.

NOTE: Personnel with no prior experience will start as Distribution Fitter B and progress to Distribution Fitter A within 6 months. It is then expected that the person will progress to the top of the Distribution Fitter A rate within 2 years.

NOTE: *IDENTIFIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This position requires a current CDL medical exam certification and will require passing a respirator medical qualification test. Any applicant transferring into the department or filling this position from the outside will be required to provide after hours and weekend emergency coverage on a rotating basis (on-call coverage).

Skills and Requirements

Graduate of high school, trade school or equivalent. Able to read, write and speak English effectively. Have Connecticut MVD and CDL drivers license with a good driving record. Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and sufficient amount of strength and ability to perform all duties of the classification. Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must show aptitude in the safe and proper operation of a backhoe or other earth moving equipment and willingness to learn to operate this equipment.
