Job Summary and Qualifications

The Senior Director of Accreditation, Compliance, and Regulatory Affairs will lead the College in the areas of regional and programmatic accreditation, compliance, regulatory affairs, risk management, and state licensing activities. The outcome of these efforts is to ensure the College’s continued good standing with all local, state, and federal agencies (including but not limited to DOE, SACSCOC, ACEN, CCNE, CNEA, boards of nursing, and boards of education) and managing risk in a multi-state operating environment. The Senior Director will also oversee the timeline of accreditation and regulatory activities required for expansion or new campus development, reaffirmations, and various stages of approval for new campuses or programs with the appropriate respective agencies.

 

Position Responsibilities

  1. Oversee accreditation or approval activities and processes including self-studies, approval documents, or substantive changes required for programmatic accreditation, institutional accreditation, state board of nursing or state higher education board approval.
  2. Ensure the College maintains compliance with all state regulations within states of operation; oversee regulatory activities required for expansion.
  3. Provide guidance and interpretation of institutional and regulatory policies and procedures.
  4. Ensure campuses have sufficient support for regulatory site visits.
  5. Establish and maintain relationships with state, federal, and accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  6. Develop accreditation, compliance, and regulatory team members in the areas of regulatory interpretation, critical thinking and judgment, reputation management, and persuasive writing.
  7. Oversee College’s compliance with various federal standards and reporting, including but not limited to FERPA, IPEDS, Title IX, VAWA, and Program Participation Agreement compliance.
  8. Oversee contract compliance, review of externally facing materials representing the College, adherence to grievance and complaint procedures, and catalog compliance.
  9. Provide updates on accreditation and regulatory changes to college leaders; advise and develop guidance for policy development and adherence; effectively communicate changes to campuses and College-wide.
  10. Identify potential and existing areas of vulnerability and risk as it relates to accreditation and regulatory compliance and develop corrective action plans for resolution.
  11. Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement institutional processes in relation to operational activities, adhering to accreditation, regulatory, and ethical practice guidelines.
  12. Ensure team provides professional development and continuing education for faculty and staff related to relevant topics in the areas of accreditation, compliance and regulatory affairs.
  13. Represent the department on college-wide committees.
  14. Understand the complex and matrixed regulatory oversight environment the College operates in and provide context and support for decision making at all levels.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Position Requirements

  • Education: A master’s degree in a related field is preferred; progressive leadership experience in overseeing accreditation, compliance, or regulatory functions in a higher education environment is highly valued. Multi-state regulatory experience or experience in federal compliance is another highly valued skill set.
  • Experience: Increasingly progressive experience in higher education with specific experience in institutional or programmatic accreditation is necessary to succeed in the role. Strong knowledge of regional and programmatic accreditation and federal reporting standards is required. Independent judgment and strong management skills are required with the ability to analyze where the institution needs to strengthen processes and procedures and build consensus. Superior written and verbal communication skills will consistently be leveraged to ensure compliance with regulations and a desire for ethical conduct relevant for a wide audience (internal and external stakeholders).
  • Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment: Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate needs. Ability to operate a personal computer and other office equipment. Normal motor skills and eye-hand coordination. Travel required.
  • Degree of Supervision: Minimal
  • Travel may be required for site visits and certain professional development activities.
