The Alakaina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has an immediate need for a Health Scientist I to provide mid-level support related to the surveillance of arboviral diseases for our government customer located in Fort Collins, Colorado .   Position may include periodic travel and need for flexible work schedule to accommodate alternate time zones.   DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide mid-level support related to the surveillance of arboviral diseases. Support the Surveillance and Epidemiology Team Lead (or designee). Data management of ADB surveillance system. Ensure that appropriate state partners maintain access to the surveillance system. Perform routine data downloads to the central database. Run SAS program to identify any abnormal findings in the data (e.g., clinical symptoms do not match reported clinical syndrome; arbovirus in new area not previously documented, pregnant male, etc.). Will communicate with appropriate partner at state health department to resolve and/or investigate issues. Generate surveillance reports using data management and visualization software. Generate routine reports during the transmission season using statistical data and visualization tools such as SAS, R, MS Excel, ArcGIS, and Tableau. Analyses are primarily descriptive. Surveillance reports can include: 1) PDF reports are emailed to all state partners and state epidemiologists; 2) updating CDC websites and dashboards with preliminary and final year data; and 3) internal surveillance data reports used for presentations and publications. Responding to internal and external surveillance data requests. Reconciling surveillance data with state and local health partners. Participate in regular conference calls; provide subject matter expertise related to the ArboNET surveillance system; confirmation of message transmissions; run diagnostics to confirm that messages are correctly transmitted; help jurisdictions and other CDC staff troubleshoot when problems are identified. Participating in meetings and conference calls by preparing and presenting data and data and answering technical questions. Support public health response and research activities related to viral vector-borne pathogens and related diseases. CDC Emergency Response: Support public health emergency response, including remote and field- based deployments to assist with responding to pandemics and other emerging threats. Provide administrative and logistical support for CDC Emergency Operations Center activities. This may occur through Incident Management Structure teams or direct support to state and local health departments. Will be expected to maintain high data quality standards and will be responsible for maintaining standard operational procedures for all data management activities. Will work closely with SET staff and informatics staff to address technical issues related to reporting and assist with activities related to CDC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and modernize the national disease surveillance system.   REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Must have a Bachelors in Biologics, Microbiology, or related discipline. Preferred a MS in Biologics, Microbiology, or related discipline. REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE: Must be a US Citizen .
