Position Title: Nursing Laboratory Specialist Location: Big Rapids (Main Campus) Department: 32202 - Nursing - BSN Advertised Salary: Salary commensurate with education, experience and other requirements. Comprehensive benefit package (health care, vacation, etc.) FLSA: Exempt Temporary/Continuing: Continuing Part-Time/Full-Time: Full-Time Union Group: N/A Term of Position: 12 Month At Will/Just Cause: Just Cause Summary of Position: Nursing Lab Instructional Support Specialist, a 12-month administrative position. Provide instructional and technical assistance in the clinical laboratory setting. Assist and evaluate students performing health assessments and technical procedures. Assist in recruiting activities showcasing the lab. The anticipated start date for this position is September 2024. However, this is an estimated date and can be revised if needed. Position Type: Staff Required Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing; enrolled in and completion of Masters degree in nursing within 2 years of hire. Required Work Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills. Required Licenses and Certifications: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse Physical Demands: Office Environment Bending Carrying Moving Reaching Sitting Lifting Pulling/Pushing Repetitive movement Standing Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Previous teaching experience in a clinical or laboratory setting; experience with simulation; MSN; Simulation certificate Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Assist faculty in providing laboratory and instructional oversight. Assist students who are practicing procedures, evaluate their work, and advise faculty of laboratory performance. Supervise students in the laboratory setting. Monitor examinations as directed by faculty to include online tests, make-up tests or performance evaluations or proctoring of an exam. Conduct proficiency examinations for students challenging a clinical skills course. Remain current in the areas of best practice techniques in nursing care. Update procedure guidelines as appropriate. Maintain records for faculty reference. Remain current in the areas of infection control and safety involving hazardous materials. Ensure the safety requirements are in place and safe procedures are being used. Collaborate with faculty to design clinical simulation activities for student learning experiences. Provide coordination support for the simulation lab. Inventory, order and prepare materials and supplies for students in the nursing labs. Problem solve and repair simulation and skills lab equipment when appropriate. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, recognizing when equipment is malfunctioning and perform preventative maintenance. Identify and maintain current reference materials and assist students in finding reference materials. Assist in recruiting events for prospective students. Maintain clinical currency in the areas of best nursing practice and laboratory safety. Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information. Performs all duties in compliance with applicable University policies and procedures and state and federal requirements. Assist with recruiting activities in sim lab. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: Administer and oversee the respirator fit testing process for clinical students to ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
