Responsibilities
PURPOSE
As a Machine Operator, you will remove product from the production line, inspect it to the customer's specifications and pack into designated cartons.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with company guidelines including wearing mandatory PPE in production areas.
- Review production orders and reports discrepancies of product specifications to line Foreman.
- Remove finished product from winders and places it on scales to verify weight. Band cartons/product to skid for shipment.
- Places identification labels on product or skids and keeps records or generates tally sheets as required, and complies with established packing plans and procedures.
- Ensures that quality is in accordance with work order specifications.
- Responsible for personal and overall safety, quality of packaging, careful damage free handling, and housekeeping.
- Responsible for adhering to and executing the applicable Environmental Health & Safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for all employees according to Berry, local, state, and federal requirement-regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED. Previous Manufacturing experience is a plus.
- Able to work in a production environment, recognizing various sounds and alarms.
- Must be able to monitor quality of machine outpost.
- Able to communicate with co-workers on issues and activities.
- Ability to complete functional math; adding, subtracting, multiplying, division and accurately read a tape measure.
- Capable of physical mobility. Over a 12-hour shift, the employee pulls and drags sheets of plastic, rearranges and organized product, grasps and pulls product during production process, can climb/descent stairs into the tower areas (50-65 feet in the air) and pushes a broom to clean production floor.
SAFETY
Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with Berry's guidelines including wearing mandatory PPE in production areas. Visually inspects production area for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards and maintains a clean work environment.
EDUCATION
High school diploma, equivalent, or previous manufacturing experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to do functional math; i.e. adding, subtracting, multiplying and division. Accurately read provided measuring devices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee must be able to keep up with moderate to high-speed production machines and winders. Manual dexterity required with exposure to arm, wrist and back fatigue. The employee continuously uses their arms, hands and fingers to handle, grasp, hold, grip and squeeze. The employee routinely uses roll handling equipment to assist in handling product and can lift up to average of 30 lbs of weight over a twelve (12) hour shift. The employee pulls and drags sheets of plastic, rearranges and organizes product, grasps and pulls on a rope to start the production process, climbs/descend stairs into the tower areas 50 to 65 feet in the air and pushes a broom to clean production floor. Must be able to lift up to 65 lbs at times when necessary. Job may require occasional bending when performing duties on production floor to pack and handle product. The employee stands approximately 10 hours and frequently walks in the production area to locate materials and check production. Stretching and reaching to reprocess discarded plastic is done on a routine basis. On occasion, will climb approximately 1½ feet to a seated forklift and drive/operate the forklift or platform of machinery. Operation of roll carts and lifting equipment is essential to job responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions on this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud. An essential part of this position is to work in a teamwork environment. The employee is constantly exposed to temperature variances; extreme heat during the Spring and Summer and cold temperatures during the Winter.
