JOHN'S UNIVERSITY Career Services Job Location: Queens, New York, United States Position Type: Full-Time/Regular Position: Senior Director, Career Advising and Experiential Learning Job Description: The Director is a senior leader within University Career Services, collaborating regularly with the Assistant Vice President to develop and implement strategies that promote successful career outcomes for students and graduates. This role involves strategic planning, including working with faculty to ensure equitable access to experiential learning opportunities and integrating career content into the curriculum. The Director also oversees a career advising team, ensuring the career readiness of all students, and achieving specific institutional goals for internships and first destination outcomes. Responsibilities: Career Advising Strategy Support the success of St. John's students through career readiness development and connections to industry, striving for the equitable access to career resources in support of successful post graduate outcomes. Create and implement an annual department Career Readiness Development Plan that is aligned with institutional and college-specific goals in collaboration with Dean's, Advisors, Employer Relations team, and the Assistant Vice President of University Career Services. Collaborate with department and campus constituents to implement plans that engage students as outlined above, and market program(s) proactively to students. Work closely with the advising team, college faculty, departments, student groups, and alumni to develop and lead both foundational training (resume preparation, internships, interview skills, mock interviews, soft skills, and job search strategies) and advanced career-related program as needed. Acquire and maintain an intimate knowledge of College and University programs and pedagogy. Utilize technology to meet both student and employer needs for recruitment strategies and candidate pipeline development. Contribute to the development of career planning and job search resources (i.e., career fairs, workshops, conferences, etc.) to enhance students' career preparedness. Remain informed of changes to national, state, and local hiring practices, guidelines, and labor related issues. Review industry, labor, and market trends that impact post graduate outcomes and develop strategies to respond. Represent Career Services at select University, community, and employer networking events. Collaborate with colleagues in the department and across the University as needed to support the University's evolving needs and strategic priorities. Strategic Planning: Curriculum Design and Integration | Experiential Learning Work closely with other units, including Academic Deans, Institutional Advancement, Athletics, and Alumni Relations to maintain and enrich existing relationships and develop innovative approaches to engage students. Develop and implement strategies that effectively address access to experiential learning for all students across the university. Research and establish practices that infuse career education into the academic life of students in all programs and areas of study enhancing access to experiential learning opportunities. Liaise with constituents across the University to create a 'career everywhere' mindset and campus 'career ecosystem.' Facilitate access to career advising and resources for first-year students in close collaboration with the Center for Student Success, focusing on students exploring their major and implementing effective strategies that impact retention and persistence. Supervision/Management: Oversee the Career and Internship Advising Team. Provide direct supervision to all college-based Career and Internship Advisors, including objective setting and performance evaluation. Lead the team of Advisors to maximize relationships within colleges, including faculty and student organizations. Assist with management of the employment statistics process, which may include collecting, verifying, and reporting statistics and data internally or for external purposes. Collaborate with AVP and other members of department leadership team in all strategic and operational functions within University Career Services. May be required to represent University Career Services outside regularly scheduled hours. Qualifications: Minimum of seven years of experience in career services, human resources, career coaching, corporate recruiting/business development, or related field. Must be collaborative, self-directed, outcome oriented, and able to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities. Possess a strong customer service focus for internal and external constituents, strong oral presentation skills and demonstrate success working both independently and in cross-functional teams. Proven supervisory experience with a strong ability to motivate staff to achieve their goals. Demonstrated expertise in managing, coaching, and developing team members in a fast-paced environment while effectively collaborating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Proficiency with MS Office required. Demonstrated ability to master a wide range of recruiting programs and learn new technologies required. Preferred qualifications include: Familiarity with career services in higher education A master's degree is preferred (bachelor's required) Proficiency in use of social media as a recruitment tool In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $111,000 - $124,000. St. John's University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This position may be relocated to any of St. John's University's physical locations at any time.
