Organizational Aircraft Mechanic 2 - Military Veterans

The Organizational Aircraft Mechanic 2 performs aircraft maintenance to include removal, replacement, repair, and modification of aircraft and/or aircraft systems and components. Applies technical knowledge and experience to repair aircraft discrepancies. Must be able to read, write, and interpret instructions, technical manuals, and/or directives necessary for the accomplishment of job assignments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs tasks as assigned /directed by Crew Leader, Leadman, and/or Supervisor in accordance with instructions, applicable technical data, manuals, and directives.
  • Work harmoniously with other employees promoting teamwork and cooperation.
  • Ensures that all aircraft parts/components removed from an aircraft are properly documented utilizing a computerized operating system or other media identified in applicable departmental maintenance instructions, ensuring repairable, serviceable, or unserviceable parts are properly handled.
  • Evaluates aircraft discrepancies, research aircraft logs books and historical data as required, to identify methods of repair and/or replacement. Identifies necessary parts, materials and tooling requirements.
  • Repair and/or replace aircraft structures such as wings, fuselage, empennage, and functional components in accordance with approved technical publications and directives.
  • Utilize manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service instructions, engineering directives, maintenance requirement cards, technical directives, schematics, drawings, blueprints, charts and other applicable publications to replace, repair, test and modify assigned systems.
  • Comply with and follow established standards of workmanship, safety, quality, and production.
  • Repair, and/or replace engines, and defective engine parts, components, and accessories. Reassemble, and install engine on aircraft utilizing appropriate support equipment.
  • Rig, Adjust, repair, and/or replace systems and aircraft accessories.
  • Performs aircraft inventory, acceptance and transfer inspections.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties servicing aircraft hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, and oxygen systems, including cleaning screens and filters, corrosion inspection and treatment, proper greasing and lubrication of aircraft.
  • Make recommendations to management to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, and/or cut costs.
  • Operates portable firefighting equipment.
  • Required to be Plane Captain certified, performs preflight/post flight, turnaround, and daily inspections and servicing.
  • Obtain and maintain Engine Turn qualification while assigned as an Organizational Aircraft Mechanic II.
  • Obtain and maintain qualification as a Collateral Duty Inspector.
  • Required to be aircraft jacking and hoisting qualified.
  • Provides technical assistance, guidance and instruction as required for training of personnel in the same or lesser grade classifications in area of responsibility.
  • Provides own hand tools as required in T-6 aircraft mechanic required minimum tool list.
  • Comply with all applicable programs, including Safety, Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Communications, Corrosion Control, Hydraulic Contamination, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control.
  • Participates in the proper maintenance and cleanliness of spaces and facilities.

  • Performs the duties and responsibilities of the lesser grade classifications in area of responsibility.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

(Minimum)

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Possess knowledge/expertise in Organizational Aircraft Maintenance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of applicable technical manuals, service bulletins, maintenance manuals, maintenance forms, and continuous inspection procedures.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language and to follow verbal and written instruction.
EDUCATION/LICENSES:
  • Graduation from high school or GED required. Satisfactory completion of U.S. Armed Forces aircraft mechanic courses and/or F.A.A. Airframe and Powerplant technical school preferred.
  • Valid state driver's license required.
  • Must be able to pass any Government and/or Company licensing/qualification requirements for the position.
EXPERIENCE:
  • FAA A&P License, or three (3) years organizational aircraft maintenance experience consisting of removing and replacing aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, propellers, and landing gear components.
  • Must have experience in the detection, treatment, and prevention of corrosion.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
  • Aircraft ground servicing equipment including vehicles, tugs, tractors, servicing carts, aircraft jacks and hoists, test equipment, hand tools, power tools.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires frequent climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, pushing, or pulling weight up to 70 pounds.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Must have close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Requires hearing to normal range.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Requires shift work and a diversity of working conditions that range from a standard shop type environment, where there may be no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, direct sun, wind, rain, etc.

WORK LOCATION:
  • Requires travel in support of cross-country rescue and detachments of unknown duration.

POTENTIAL HAZARDS:
  • Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets, working on or around aircraft and machinery.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • May be required to work in areas where noise hazards are prevalent.
WORK LOCATION:
  • Aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flight line.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • May require use of respirator.
