FY25 - Chicano Studies Instructor, Limited LOS ANGELES COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT P ROFESSIONAL O PPORTUNITIES LOS ANGELES PIERCE COLLEGE FY25 - Chicano Studies, PACE - Limited .2 FTE Fall Closing Date: September 14, 2024 Located on about 426 acres in the West San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles Pierce College combines state-of-the-art technology and learning with the picturesque beauty of its rolling hills. Founded in 1947, Pierce College is a growing two-year public institution with more than 100 disciplines being taught to more than 18,000 diverse students and enjoys one of the highest transfer performances in Southern California. DEPARTMENT Pierce College's Program for Accelerated College Education (PACE) is pleased to announce a limited contract eight-week position teaching Chicano Studies - Chicano 008 at Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) for Fall 2024. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES In accordance with its mission as a community college, instruction at LAPC includes lower division courses. Faculty members at LAPC are expected to facilitate student learning by designing varied and exciting learning environments. PACE courses are taught in-person, hybrid, online, evenings, and weekends. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Utilize the results of learning outcome assessments to improve instructional and instructional support programs, teaching and student learning; Maintain scheduled office hours for student contact; Plan and complete approved professional development flex activities each year; Maintain accurate records in accordance with the policies, rules and procedures of the LACCD; Maintain current teaching methods and discipline specific technologies; Teach courses in accordance with the established course outline; PACE instructors must be Distance Education certified. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in Chicano Studies; OR Master's in the ethnic studies; OR the equivalent. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background as well as accommodating any disabilities of community college faculty, students and staff. Eligibility Requirement & COVID-19 Vaccination A medical certificate indicating fitness to instruct or associate with students is required at the applicant's expense after selection from an eligible list and prior to employment. Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all employees must be fully vaccinated by November 8, 2021. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Experience teaching Chicano Studies or Ethnic Studies in a community college or other college setting or institutions of higher education; Excellent academic record that indicates a strong foundation/background in Chicano studies as well as a broad range of subfields within the discipline of Chicano Studies/Ethnic Studies and/or closely related social science; Demonstrated skill in communicating professionally, effectively and collegially with students, classified staff, faculty and administration in a multicultural environment; Commitment to teach and nurture students in a community college setting to foster their intellectual and personal growth; Experience teaching returning adult students; Experience teaching short-term or non-traditional programs; Ability to collaborate with colleagues on projects within the PACE program; Experience using Canvas and innovative online teaching strategies that keep students engaged; Commitment to and experience in advocating for student support programs and services on campus, such as tutoring. SALARY AND BENEFITS The starting salary ranges from $7,299 - $13,562 for the Fall Semester teaching the one course, depending on experience and professional preparation. An excellent benefit package, which includes medical, vision, dental, and life insurance is available for the employee and eligible dependents.
