Job Overview

In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day. The Department of Surgery is a top-tier department with world-renowned faculty and staff.

A full-time faculty position is available in the Department of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati. The Department of Surgery is seeking a Division Chief to lead our Division of Transplantation. The Division of Transplantation is among eight clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes nine faculty members. The faculty members offer a broad array of clinical services providing the highest quality care for transplant surgery patients including liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants. The team performs deceased donor transplants, living donor transplants, living donor nephrectomies, minimally invasive hepatobiliary surgery, general surgery care for transplant patients and dialysis access procedures for patients with end stage renal disease. UC's Comprehensive Transplant Center is a regional and national leader with active clinical and research programs involving liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation.

Essential Functions

The Division Chief will serve as the Medical Director of UC Health's Comprehensive Transplant Center which oversees solid organ transplant programs. This individual works in a close relationship with UC Health leadership regarding operational oversight of the clinical programs including quality initiatives. The responsibilities of the Medical Director include reporting to UC Health Senior leadership about progress and plans for the Comprehensive Transplant Center, managing strategic activities, acting on day-to-day operational issues for the physician practice and in support of the transplant service line; developing goals, policies and procedures for the comprehensive transplant center to assure continued compliance with applicable laws and regulations including the guidelines established by UNOS, CMS and TJC; overseeing and participating in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Program; and ensuring collaboration across the physician practice and UC Health to drive improvement in clinical quality outcomes and attainment of core measures.

The incoming Chief will be responsible for partnering with the Chair of the Department of Surgery to promote clinical growth and academic success in a collaborative environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • MD or equivalent.
  • Completion of a five-year accredited residency in Surgery.
  • Completion of a two-year Transplant Surgery fellowship.
  • Ohio medical license.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • BC/BE in General Surgery with specialty training in Transplantation Surgery.
  • Certification by the American Board of Surgery.
  • Associate or Full Professor with a minimum of 6 years of clinical experience beyond training.
  • The ideal candidate demonstrates effective leadership and administrative skills and brings experience in resident education and research. Strong interpersonal skills are crucial to nurture and expand upon existing collaborations both within and beyond the rich UC Health network.
  • Candidates should be committed to education of surgeons and students and demonstrate a commitment to an academic career through research, teaching, and education.
