Summary:

This position will primarily work with Oncology and other diagnosis under the Hematology and Oncology umbrella.The Social Worker will provide direct Social Work services to patients and families who have acute or chronic medical conditions. The Social Worker provides ongoing supportive counseling aimed at maintaining the functional behavior of families. The social worker assesses families for needed assistance with resource procurement that aids the family's efforts in caring for their child in either the ambulatory or inpatient care setting. Duties will include but are not limited to providing psychosocial assessments, case managment, discharge planning, providing crisis intervention, supportive counseling, making referrals to outside agencies for families in need of assistance and routine administrative task.

Hours: This position will work Mon., Tues, Thurs (occasional Weds). Requires full-time on-site training for the first 6-8 weeks.


Required Education & Experience:


  • MSW or MSSW from an accredited school.


  • Previous experience in a hospital oncology setting preferred.


  • Prior experience working with children and their families preferred.


Required Certification/Licensure:


  • Current Texas License for LMSW.


  • Basis Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Providers required within 30 days of employment.
